i use android and iOS and don't miss flash on my ipad 2. so much apps there to organize information that you don't need to use the web browser most of the time. apps like Pulse and Zite are awesome.

Also, most sites have an HTML5 version that DOES work on the iPad anyways. I'd name cnn and a few popular Pron sites. The only real thing missing with flash these days are old Flash sites with games. Just give HTML5 some time to mature and for developers to make HTML5 versions and flash really won't be missed all that much. Hell, when I tried out the iPad at the store, I love how some sites have a seperate site, designed just for navigation on the iPad and it's way better than viewing the desktop version.

Everyone loves to hate on the iPad not having Flash. But having a website specifically made for your device just makes it feel like time and energy was spent to do this.

Apple does this. It ditches technology and doesn't look back. You can't move forward if you keep looking back.

You can on iOS devices. What other devices do you have?

Currently in service:
Dell Venue Pro
Samsung Vibrant
Zune HD

Retired but still in my possession:
HTC HD2
T-Mobile G1
Palm Treo 750wx

Soon:
Blackberry PlayBook
iPod Touch

Ya know...every other platform :) I'll be getting an iPod Touch this summer to do iOS development, so I guess I'll get it then, but come on Hulu!

I'm still getting my money's worth out of the subscription since I cancelled my FIOS TV and use Hulu Plus on my PS3 instead, and if the PlayBook can do it through the browser, that will be pretty sweet too...

Looks good, it's actually better than I thought. 7" is a little small for movies, but res is good for browsing. I'd get this before any Android tablet currently on the market, but I'd probably go for an iPad first.

RIM needs to get this OS on some 4" phones and they'd have a winner.

The thing about this is Hulu probably won't let it happen. Hulu has not let Google TV access it or any other Android device.

Yea, I mentioned that earlier in the thread when someone brought it up...but I can hope, can't I? :D

Unless you wanna look at 90% of the websites out there.

What sites are you looking at? I don't have flash installed (I can use Chrome if I need to) and I don't run into many problems. AnandTech? Gmail, Google Reader, Google Docs, pretty much any of the Google sites? Blogs? No, no no. What do you run into the needs flash? The occasional portfolio site, por — aaaaaah. I see. ;)

My friend came up with the example of Reddit video links.

Comedy Central videos require flash and, personally, I want to be able to watch The Daily Show and The Colbert Report. Just one example.

The main thing Flash does for me is it lets me watch ESPN3. That is the killer app that the iWorld just can't do.

Of course the quality of Android Flash is so poor its hard to follow the action, but at least I can dream of a day when I have a quad-core Tablet that does a better job.

No matter how much I dream, or how many cores Apple shoves in it, I cannot get my sports fix on iOS.

You'll get your ESPN3 on iOS sooner than you would get a smooth Flash experience.

Look up watchESPN on iOS...

It does better than ESPN3: it lets you view all ESPN channels (ESPN, ESPN2, ESPN3, ESPNU). Only drawback is you have to be a subscriber to certain services, but hey... And Verizon internet subscribers (not FIOS) still gets ESPN3. AT&T and other service providers may be added in the near future.

Alternatively, you can use Orb Live or Splashtop Remote to stream ESPN3 to your device from your home computer. Splashtop in particular can stream much more as it is supposed to stream your entire desktop computer. Complete with sounds and an option to optimize streaming for smoothness rather than clarity.

There are solutions. I think many just refuse to research them.

...so he has to pay, whereas with flash he doesn't? Is that the gist of what you're saying?

Solutions like these are way beyond the scope of the average consumer.

No. If his internet service provider falls into the list, he doesn't have to pay. Just install the app and he's done. watchESPN is free. Think of it as an ESPN3 native app that also lets the user view ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNU if he has already subscribed to them.

Orb Live and Splashtop are paid apps, but he doesn't have to pay for more than the apps themselves.

Solutions like these are way beyond the scope of the average consumer.

watchESPN is not beyond the scope of consumer. Go to App Store, install, launch, choose channel, view, done.

Splashtop is similarly simple, go to desktop, install app, go to device, install app, launch app, choose computer (this is automagic), view, done. Maybe more steps than watchESPN but not significantly more.

I don't understand why people try to make out Flash like it's a bad thing. It's only a positive. If you don't want to use it then that's fine but it can only enhance the experience of a tablet because then you can actually surf the whole web. It's like saying having an SD card is stupid on a tablet. If you don't want to use it that's fine but it it is in no way a negative.

Meh seems like normal movement, it's been hovering around $54 for a few weeks, and the Mossberg quote in that article is stupid as well as technically incorrect. Weak article.

No 3G without tethering: One widely read review came from Walt Mossberg, who wrote in the Wall Street Journal that the PlayBook's user interface is "handsome and quick." But he decried the tablet's "odd system" that requires tethering to a BlackBerry, through an app called BlackBerry Bridge, in order to connect to 3G service.

What's odd about tethering with a WiFi only tablet? Nothing. More hate.

They mean that you don't really have an option to have the PlayBook as a standalone device. You have to tether to get certain things.
Not really. The first third Party email app is already out and the native apps have been promised in 60 days.

Promised? But how do you know you're actually going to get that in 60 days? Wouldn't you want to buy a device that is ready out of the box?
