Playback at wrong speed, too fast

I am capturing video off of my Sony DV camcorder.
When I play it back on the computer it's way too
fast. While it makes my son look like a dancing
whirl wind it also makes everyting sound like
mickey mouse.
I am using Windows XP movie maker
AMD Athlon 2500+
1 gig of Samsung pc3200 ram
Sony DV camera connected using Firewire.

It does it not mater what format I save it in .
avi. wma.
