I want to get a sony 10x8x32x CDRW with 4 mb buffer and a IBM 30 GB 75 GXP HD. Can I play for example Q3 while burning or would this cause bad burning???

you dont really want to be doing anything with your computer while burning something. Besides at the speed you got it wont take very long for something to burn anyways.

Unless the drive has burnproof you'll probably get a buffer under run.

besides using IDE in Programming I/O mode uses so damn much CPU Quake3 would run like crap any ways.

Go SCSI (with or without Burnproof) if you want to play quake3 while you burn.

Normally I?ll burn and browse the web, but never playing a game, it doesn?t take that long anyway.

Maybe it's because my burner runs at only 4x, but I've played a few Q3A deathmatches while burning in Win2k with no problems. As a a matter of fact, my IDE burner has only given me a buffer underrun twice - once was when I tried to burn all the way to the end of an 80min CD without applying a firmware patch, and second was inserting a DVD into the DVD-ROM while the burner was going (both are on the same controller).

What was that about dude? People come to get info, that's what this forum is here for. If you don't respect people, people will not respect you.

I think it should work. You could just try with a CD-RW disc and then it doesn´t matter if it gets an error.

TDK 12/10/32 w/burnproof. I can play Q3 and even watch a DVD from a drive on the same chain as the burner.

Hmmm maybe I should try that to see if I can max out my cyurrent system.

I have tried unraring, surfing, downloading, winamp, icq and aim at the same time while burnning..a ctually I do it all the time and I have never gotten a buffer underrun.

Maybe its just me and my box but who knows

Thorin - Perhaps it was!. But he always asks crap like this. Why not search the forums and see for yourself?

Moving Target - Those who swear have a very limited vocabulary. Go back to school and learn ya ABC's fool.

NOX - Just seemed to me to be a pretty pointless question. Everyone's system is different. It might work for one and not for the other. Why doesn't he just try it and find out...thats all... I really can't believe that not being able to burn a CD while playing Q3A would stop anyone buying a burner!

I can do anything with my all SCSI system...defrag, frag (in quake), etc. I only run into trouble when adding new users in Win2k, because for some reason that takes 100% of my CPU for several minutes.

Shagga - My term for you was the first thing that came to mind. You can try to insult my intelligence all you like, but you are the one who looks rather stupid by your uncalled-for post.

I have done so with my old cpu too. A p3 550 was the old one. Playing Ut and burning. Nothing like coming out of a tournament with a new cd or porn.. I mean music.

A pathetic and pointless question? I dont think there are too many of those things. Just because you know something, doesn't mean someone else would. It's like asking if a 200 thz cpu would be fast.

For dual systems, burning a cd and playing Q3 at the same time is such a non-event that it makes a walk in the park look hard.
