looking to upgrade to the sky lake platform form haswell prefereably the 6700k. Please give the best parts needed for an optimal system. I already have a ssd and he'd and PSU but everything else needs to change. Choose parts from Amazon because even though they are more expensive their customer service is better so I don't mind spending extra. Thanks.

Do I have to? As the complete system consisted of a 4670k, Asrock z87extreme4, 16gb ram, rx 480 (subject to change when vega comes out) and sea sonic 750 watt PSU. I just need to update the parts and is looking for the best upgrade path. The pc is mostly used for gaming but I want it to be more versatile just in case I need to do other thing in the near future. I am familiar with that format but i don't think it pertains to me really as I am looking for upgrade advice.

Plus following that format on my phone is pain but I need help as soon as possible.

I don't see a need to upgrade your CPU, unless you're getting rid of the old system. I'd just get a 1070 or 1080 and call it a day.

Tried both of those and in most games fps and minimums where not close to others I sa with the 6700k so I decided to the return them. Cpu was even overclocked to 4.2. Crysis and witcher 3 I tested and the frames were quite a bit lower. So unless you can tell me where the problem lies the cpu was holding back those cards especially the 1080.

+1

For gaming, you will not see a big increase.

You must have had a issue with your computer, as your CPU is more than enough capable.

As I asked before what could be the other possible reason why I am seeing such notable discrepancies? And those CPUs you linked in that article are above my processor.

Since you returned the GTX 1070 or 1080, and haven't given the FPS you were getting, I have no idea. And I linked to that review so you had a ballpark figure on where you should be gaming wise. The 4670k is in the same ballpark as the 4690k.

If you feel your system is holding you back, sell it and buy a 6700k/z170/DDR4.

CPU overheating? RAM not in the correct slots for dual-channel mode?

I take all of your advice dearly so they are all noted but specifically with crysis 3 at 1080p (I'm at 1440p) I changed my settings to match the one in a video granted i was not sure if his cpu was overclocked but mine was 4.2 he was getting like 120'plus while I was dipping to like 65. His system is probably better equipped than mine but the fps difference at the same res was too significant and the minimums where notable higher. So in the end I settled for the 480 and will be waiting on vega

I did an hour of Aida64 and cpu was at 4.2 and temp was at its highest of 73. The ram is single channel mode since my cpu is facing upwards so two channels are blocked. If I don't need to upgrade then tell what can be upgraded as it is

If he gaming at 1080p, and had a healthy overclock on his CPU and the GPU, he would be in the range you stated (depending on settings of course). However, with you gaming at 1440p, the numbers you got would be the range you would expect with your CPU.

The following review I am linking to shows that even with a i7-4690x @4.2 Ghz, they were at 71 FPS at 1440p.

http://www.anandtech.com/show/10325/the-nvidia-geforce-gtx-1080-and-1070-founders-edition-review/23

You can also see that when playing at 1080p, they hit 111 FPS with a Founders Edition GTX 1080. When they overclocked it, they got around a 11% increase in performance.

That's unfortunate. It probably costs you a few percent frame rate in games. I assume you mean "cpu cooler", not that the chip is tilted. So perhaps a new heat sink or a liquid cooler is in order?

I need to improve this. I need a new also so recommend me a good one that is easy to work with and clean. Current case is does not look good and is missing parts. If I need to change anything let me know, I need the best possible advice.

What kind of case would look good then? Maybe you will find some on newegg or elsewhere that look good to you, I can then comment on whether they are good quality or have good features and specs, and suggest alternatives :)

I would start with this rough guideline
  1. get rid of the pointless 5.25" drive (haven't needed one in years), it will open up more case choices as well (p400s, define s, s340 to name a few)
  2. route all the PSU cables neatly behind the motherboard tray, especially the CPU cable that's blocking access to the graphics card
  3. turn the CPU cooler 90 degrees so it'll blow front-to-back
    • right now, it's pulling air from above (where it's warmer...), heating it up as it travels through the heat sink, and pushing it down onto your graphics card. This is the worst possible orientation for your CPU cooler, it's counterproductive in so many ways
  4. install fans like so:
    • 1 x 120/140mm fan at the rear slot, blowing air out, and possibly another at the top-rear slot
    • 2 x 120/140mm fans blowing air in from the front through a dust filter, preferably without any obstruction from hard disk cages
    • sufficient number of Y-cables to fit all fans into the fan headers on your particular motherboard
    • speeds controlled according to CPU load (preferably min RPM around 500 RPM, will be near silent)
  5. preferably the top of the case will be filtered or closed so dust won't fall in

p400 by Phanteks is a great case. Get it I love mine.

I got the 400c right now. I had the s340 but it could not fit my noctua u14s. Both cases are good but the 400c is really nice. I was going to get the p400s but its not compatible with the noctua either.
