i want to buy a hitachi 42" Plasma for about 3k but cant find any detailed reviews for it...

help? anybody ? a different forum/review site?

Home theater magazines or the home theater websites. You may not find a full review like you do with PC hardware. HT stuff is harder to find. If you search for the model you're looking at on a HT site you should find some opinions.

Plasma TVs are like a furnace in your living room. Get an LCD. 🙂

Still depends on the model.

What's your viewing distance and budget? How's your ambient light control? What kind of source material will you be watching most of the time?

mostly DVD PS2, XBOX, and maybe XBOX360 if i buy it
and then i might even start paying for cable (currently using <ahem> black box) so i have digital cable

viewing distance? its gonna be in the living room, i think about 12'-14' from couch to wall? only a shade, and a dimmer light switch in the living room, but i hardly ever watch anything during the day

research, research, research before you buy one.

they can be incredible displays second to none, but only if manufactured right.

But at your viewing distance 12-14' a plasma my not be the right choice. People love to jump in on threads like these without taking into consideration what you are using it for and the room. Trust Apex's advice and questions...he is a pro.

ive been reading a LOT about this on avsforum lately. the specs are insane. i have the vizio p42hde.

12-14' is rather far. I'm about 8' from my 50" plasma, and 11' from my 100" LCOS projector/screen.

What is your budget again?

i overestimated the living room. wall to wall is about 13' actually.
the front of the couch to the wall (assuming a plasma is flat enough to go close enough to the wall or at least leaving only 1'). it's about 9'.

budget? i dunno, 3k-4k? not more than 4k.
