Plasma TV question

I'm doing some research on whether to get an LCD or Plasma TV and I have a quick question that I hope someone can answer. I'm basically leaning towards a plasma except for the one drawback that people keep telling me about, which is image burn-ins. Today I read a dated article that said newer plasmas will be coming out with a feature that recognize when an image has been there for an extended period of time and will shift the image around (without you knowing or something like that) to prevent burn ins.

This brings me to my question, does anyone know if that is now standard in recent plasmas and what that feature is called?

There is a feature in some new ones (and maybe some old ones as well, but I doubt that) that shifts the images by one pixel so that you don't notice it a lot. I read abou tthis here, but don't know what this feature is called, and who has it.

I don't think all plasmas have it yet, but screen burn in isn't common unless you play games on it.

It is a non issue with a decent brand plasma screen for even a 2yr old one.

SETUP THE SCREEN SO THE BRIGHTNESS ISN'T SET ON BURN YOUR EYES OUT

If you do this then you won't suffer any burn in.

My dad has a plasma screen and it runs great.

have you ever burned in a tube tv? if so then you will have to do the same to burn in a plasma

if you have never burned in a tube then dont worry about it.

PS, get a panasonic plasma, they are awesome and have very good prices.

AFAIK, current plasma TVs don't have an issue with burn-in... at least at ordinary brightness levels.

Actually I'd say plasma has more burn-in sensitivity. We have a 42" Panny plasma at work that got burn-in within a month, from too much C-Span of all things. I've not seen a CRT burn in that fast.

I have a plasma TV and I can help. There IS no issue with burn-in whatsoever as long as you have the brightness very low during the first 100 hours and fill the whole screen with no black bars on top and bottom or on the sides. After that, you can pretty much do anything including gaming and won't have any problems. I have HP PL5000N (a.k.a Panasonic 500U) and the picture is great especially the blacks. ..saw a 37" panasonic plasma at costco for 1699.00 looked good but the chroma was very hot. I suspect the store set it up that way to be catchy looking but wondering how much range there is in the chroma adjust. can it be turned down to zero where the pic looks black/white?? I don't like florescent looking color.

Yes, there are three settings - Vivid (most stores have it in this setting), Normal and Cinema (the darkest setting). I have it set to Normal with customized settings that I adjusted according to my liking for each separate input (it remembers them all).

I wouldn't recommend hitachi for plasma's the set we had at work I tried for days to get the colors correct...never could

Hitachi is my least favorite on that list.

Concerns about burn-in on any display should be quickly whacked with a "bullcrap" stick.

turn down your contrast and don't leave a game on it for a week straight and you'll be fine.
