Interesting question. Maybe you could help me answer my question. I have a PC and it doesn't work. Why?

my philips 42' does the same thing. Not all the time though. Seems to be random...maybe a few times a week. If you notice they do run very warm, at least my plasma does.

First off, Plasmas heat issue is inherent to their design. Plasma TV's just use alot of juice, and anything that gets used becomes heat. If you do not have them ventilated this could become a problem (few inches around each side, several behind, or if less space a fan to pull the heat away). The other issue is it is sensitive to the power in your house which could be noisy triggering a shutoff condition of low voltage, so a line conditioner or something might help if that is the case.

As far as the shutting off problem, did you check the manufacturer's website for a firmware upgrade to the TV that might fix the problem? Samsung had this issue with this years models, and a quick file on a USB drive fixed it. Also I know my Philips LCD has a USB slot for upgrading firmware from the website, so it might be worth looking into since I know Philips has this feature on some models.

I have another interesting question. Why is it that most of the stupid useless smartass answers to legit questions come from "Lifers" or "Elite" members?

To OP, have you tried moving the set to a cooler area? How old is is? Model?

You don't have it flush mounted to a wall do you? Ventillation is paramount with flat panel displays.

I put as much effort into answering his question he did asking it, maybe a little more. I don't get paid for this sh!t, and I'm definitely not going to waste my time posting a legitimate answer when, one, the OP most likely didn't even do research for himself, and secondly, didn't even put the effort into describing his problem properly.

I'll leave the hand holding to certain Diamond Members, as "some" Lifers have better things to do with their time.

Which is why the manual continuously tells you to keep adequate ventilation.

overheat an amp or receiver and they will do the same thing. My first guess is there isn't proper space around the display or somebody didn't RTFM.

Hey, you missed a key part in my post:

I put as much effort into answering his question he did asking it, maybe a little more. I don't get paid for this sh!t, and I'm definitely not going to waste my time posting a legitimate answer when, one, the OP most likely didn't even do research for himself, and secondly, didn't even put the effort into describing his problem properly.

But I guess you conveniently left that part out. I guess if you DID quote me fully, your moronic response would have made even less sense than it did originally.

Let me tell you what I WILL waste time on though:

1. Making smartass remarks
2. Arguing

Why? Because that takes less effort than posting a legitimate response. Again, if someone is not going to put the effort into describing their problem properly, I'm not going to waste my time doing the research for them and answering with a legitimate response. What, do I need to ask the questions AND answer them for him? Or would you prefer me to be like you and post worthless crap that contributes even less than my post do?

Thanks for a good laugh in this thread.

Sorry I don´t have a good guess at the answer to your question, though the responses about heat make a lot of sense. It could also be any number of other things. I´m sure if you provide a little more information, some of the people here enjoy trying to help.

when Plasma television shuts off . You need to lay the tv flat on its front on a table , use a blanket be careful because the screen could crack. You need to disconnect the power cord and all the connections to the tv. Now remove all the screws the the back cover and remove cover. The power board is the one, that the cord connects to. It has large capacitors and RC's with heat sinks. What you need to look for is the Capacitors that look bloated they are bad and need to be replaced. You need to use a soldering iron remove them and put in the new capacitor. You can find them at a electronics shop. They post videos on You tube that show you everything. One more thing be aware that the Capacitors have a polarity they need to go in the same way.
