Plasma owners please opine

I just bought a new house (with my wife). She let me buy this plasma tv for my basement:

The basement was trashed, and I'm doing the best I can with it in a short amount of time. The new carpet comes on Monday. I just hurried up and painted it Ravens colors since I'm a fan and have tons of Ravens paraphenalia that will cover all the walls pretty much completely. Left and right views from the stairs:

I've been fighting with this decision the whole time. This room has to double as my computer room, and I want to be able to use my Logitech Z5300's for both the computer and the tv if possible. This means I need to have them situated sort of next to each other for the speakers to be placed correctly (or close) for each.

If I put the tv in the corner next to the fireplace, I can put the computer desk on the wall to the right and they can share the speakers, and I can also maximize the seating. The computer desk will be low-pro and far enough away to not be a hindrance. However, I'm thinking that puts the tv too close to the fireplace, which will distract from the tv experience, along with the window space behind it. I will also be using the fireplace, and am thinking it will be too close (about 1 foot from the edge of the mantle):

I measured it and it's not nearly as close as I made it look in the pic, but I don't know how the heat will roll out of the fireplace. Maybe a small fan in the window space behind the tv would create a stream to carry it away from the tv.

My other option is to put the tv in the middle of the wall all by itself, and just have to put the computer in a corner somewhere (which sucks). This would be optimal for viewing the tv since it would have the wall all to itself, but then I won't be able to place my rear speakers properly for the computer, and the tv won't be able to use the 5.1's at all because they'll be on the other side of the room:

I guess I'm asking if people think I can get away with putting the tv in the corner, or would that corner be too "busy" and distract you from the tv.

Cliff's:
