Plasma or LCD or Projector or DLP

So I have been itching to get a HD plasma or projector or etc. I have a nice panny 36" Tau non HD that looks great but I want a Widescreen monitor/tv.

What would you reccommend?

I just bought a xbox 360 and have $200 left to Best Buy and about $2k i got from some incentive site along with 2 $500 giftcards.

Now Im not looking to spend all that on a tv but whats a good deal for a 42" or above tv. How are hd projectors? etc

IMO the best bang for the buck is the Westinghouse 42" LCD. Very cheap for a 1080p (yes, 1080p!) monitor and it's super super crisp. I'll never go back to plasmas again. Since having that LCD, I never watch the plasma anymore. I can spot those pixels a mile away. Even PS2 games look fantastic on that thing. On my plasma they look like garbage. Like you're playing it on a TV.

Agreed. LCD is the only way to go. 1920x1080 what more could you ask for?

Were getting a sony KDF-E42A10, super crisp, and even though its 720 you can't really tell if sit as far away as we do (2.5 times screen size away and you can't tell between 1080 and 720)

I mean how much differnce is there between a 1080p and 720p

Half the time i dont have contacts in anyway so will i notice the difference?

I just want the best tv i can get that at least 42" for around 1500-2000

Panasonic AE900 LCD projector FTW. I've had an AE700 fo r over a year now, watching it on a 129" diagonal screen, and couldn't be happier. Best money I ever spent.

How much is the projector? Only thing ive always been wiery about with projectors is wash out and bulbs. I mean im not gonna watch this tv in a sun room but is washout really that bad? I usually watch TV at night and play games then too. I always have the 36" to watch TV in the day if its too bright.

How are projectors for gaming. I see that AE900 is almost 2g which is expensive considering bulb burnout i might see from gaming a lot. They are affordable though and offer huge screens. Hooked up to my surround JBL studio speakers, it would rock

plasmas are brighter and do better with blacks, so they get my vote as usual. LCDs are inferior in those terms, but if you are on a budget and want 1080p then the westinghouse 42" is a good choice. if you decide you want to spend more, like 3500+, check out the HD plasmas from pioneer especially. no perceptible brightness attenuation from almost any angle and it is very high quality.

projectors are nice since you can get good quality on a HUGE screen, but the simplicity of a LCD/Plasma is better for day to day stuff. i built my own projector and it looks just as good if not better than entry level projectors. the screen is ~90 inches and the bulb will last 20,000 hours. the bulb is also 30 dollars, lol. anyway, i only use that to watch movies with tons of people over and it does that job well, but if you really wanted a nice projector you would have to buy it, not make it. they look ok in a bright room but not like a plasma will. not even close.

Ok you'll get a lot more bang for your buck with a projector. However, you do need a room where you can limit the amount of extraneous lighting.

I pulled the trigger for a panasonic AE900U (Currently $1.4K after a $400 Rebate and you get a $300 blockbuster gift card or something, rebate ends May 31).

Since I only watch movies occasionally the projector is the perfect choice for me. I can whip this baby out and throw a huge screen up. If you plan on watching things every day on your purchase than a projector is not a good choice.

i bought a 50inch plasma for $2200 with 4 year warranty. i agree the screen is a little pixelated, but from where i am sitting most of the time i notice it. most of the time i notice bad HDTV feeds rather than screen pixels.

i would imagine watching cable on a 1080p LCD would be the same or worse.

I also have a AE700, and a Xbox360, and the combo is great for gaming. However, you really must have control of lighting, because washout is a concern. I'm not sure what you mean by bulb burnout though. Yes, the bulb will need to be replaced, but it's no different than a DLP, LCD set.

Actually the better option would be the Sanyo Z4, it has better reviews than the new AE900, I too own the AE700 and have a 100" diagonal. I love it, as a college student I couldn't ask for more (I worked my ass off for this thing, no mommy daddy bought you that BS). I have had a problem with the ballast and had to get it serviced once, I think I may have to have it serviced again. I'd go with the sanyo Z4 (It's cheaper too) and get a piece of Parkland Plastics Polywall for my screen ($15 @ Lowes, just put trim around it for a perfect screen)

Well the thing is I have a 36" for TV. Would watch movies and maybe flyers on this thing.

What i really want it for is HIGH DEFINITION XBOX 306 GAMING

I will play the 360 a lot like 2-3 hours some days and just dont want the bulb to burnout. How much are replacements?

Whats my best choice
