New Popcap game, is on Steam for $10, and has a 1 hour trial you can download. I seem to enjoy T.D. type games so I gave this one a whirl. An hour really isn't enough IMHO. As with pretty much all T.D. games I've played, it starts out very slow and takes awhile to speed up. So they're pretty boring for awhile. Very cartoony graphics, you have to defend your home from the Zombies with plants. No idea why they chose plants but they did. The further you get the more different types of plants you unlock. You can also buy power ups and other items. First hour was almost snoozer easy for me, but I figured it would get much harder, and I liked the graphics and gameplay so I sprung $10 to buy it.
It definitely gets harder, you have a limited amount of spaces for weapons & plants so you have to plan carefully which you want or you'll lose. If 1 Zombie gets by, the first time a lawn mower will run him and any zombie in his line over. After that it's game over. There are 6 lines on the level I'm on - maybe will be more later. Some zombies have tin buckets on their head for armor, some will pole valt over your flowers, some ride in on Zambonies. Seems to be a wide variety, I've seen maybe 24 or so to this point.
For $10 I'm having fun, I suppose this could have been a flash based web game. But it seems to have a lot of power ups and flower types compared to most free on-line games. I've unlocked 25 weapons and half the slots are still empty. Game's pretty difficult at this point, I'm on level 3-9, not sure how many it has total as it doesn't seem to tell me.
A pretty good time waster, a bit different than the typical T.D. games. It has other modes of play - Puzzle, something else I don't remember. I haven't unlocked them. So maybe I have a ways to go.
Try the demo if you like these types of games, nothing to lose. Will run on any system as it's not 3d or anything fancy. I still think the graphics are pretty good, for a cartoon game they fit. Resolution is locked (dunno at what) not any real options.
try it out.
