Plantronics DSP-500 USB Headset

The Plantronics DSP-500 USB Headset is available at Amazon.com for $59.84. The price is cheaper than you can get their lower end models at other stores and about $90 off their regular list price.

I've had a couple plantronics headsets and the quality is absolute crap. They're made to break after about 5 months. Just a heads up, every person I've known with a pair have done the same thing.

Otherwise, real nice price 🙂

I have owned these and the HS-1's (which I did break the boom mic on it playing CS).

I disagree with your analysis on the quality of the Plantronics products - I have gotten good service from all I have bought from them.

What are you comparing to???

A-ha! You're a person who doesn't have faith in the restorative powers of duct tape, aren't you?

I've had my set of Audio.90's for a while now. Basically the DSP-500's minus the built in sound card. Paid $17 from buy.com a loooooong time ago. Pretty good headphones, and the mic is excellent. These things get beat on yet they work fabulous for me every time.

lol, my friend has a pair of headfones that are no longer connected. and are just 2 seperate chunks for each ear. he used to wear a beanie to hold them up. now that he lost his beanie, he uses underwear. ;p

what are the odds that these will work with a PS2?

slim to none.

Gotta be able to install the drivers to send the sound to your usb port.

It looks almost identical to the headset included with SOCOM. I'm asking becaue my dog ate my original set, and Madden 2004 on PS2 is going to support voice conversations.

Bah, they last longer than that, I've owned a few pairs of plantronics including this model.
WTH are you doing to your headsets is what I want to know!

Voice-com the McGyver way:

1. Acknowledge what a cheap bastard you are.
2. Grab your nice set of Sony stereo headphones.
3. Take a wire hanger, fold it and bend it into a boomerang shape with the hook end still intact.
4. Take your little it-came-with-the-computer 2-inch mic with clip and clip it to one end of the hanger.
5. Take the hook end of the hanger and slide it over one of the headphone cups.
6. Put the whole thing on your head, adjust and tweak accordingly.
7. Frag terrorists. 🙂

The DSP line of headsets is nothing more than the regular ones with a USB "soundcard."

CompUSA usually has the Audio .90, which is the same headset without the digital part, for $30.

And yeah, I did have two Plantronic headsets go bye bye on me. Right now I'm using the Sony "Street Style" headset with the retractable mic that can be found for $40 at CompUSA.

I have the DSP-500 which i bought a couple months ago for ~$70. It has worked out great so far, very pleased with the sound quality. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another set if i had to.

So if you're strictly using headphones DSP-500, doesn't matter if you have onboard audio or an SB Audigy 2, it will be the same?

Yes. In fact, you wouldn't even need any sound devices, including onboard sound.

There is no way to disable the use of the USB sound card built in to these headsets. No way to use as headphones only.

Yes, the headset cannot be unplugged from that box that contains the soundcard.

For those who don't give a crap about the USB part, here something neat for you: .Audio 90 $21.60

More: .Audio 70 $18.94

I picked up the .Audio 90's for $17.xx from Buy.com a few months ago. Living in a small apartment with my wife, I needed a nice set of headphones for gaming....she hates how loud I play BF1942 😉

Anywho, the headset is great! Good sound and quality!
