Planning upgrade in March/April -- looking for ideas

Ya ya ya... I know.... Still three or four months away, why worry about it ;-)

Just curious what is coming down the pike from Intel and AMD???

Been reading that Intel is going to be coming out with Northwood soon, but haven't heard what speeds. Also, keep hearing that AMD is fixing to shrink their die size... But not sure when the will be releasing.

Just basically looking for some ideas and some thoughts....

Me too . . . why worry about it now?

The 2.2Ghz Northwood is out now and is currently faster than anything AMD has (especially if you o/c it). But you will pay $679 for it right now.

The Athlon 2000+ XP was just released for $425 (you pay over $150 more for 70Mhz over the 1900).

By about April the Northwood will officially support 533FSB (unofficially the 2.2Ghz easily overclocks to it now around 2.53Ghz) and probably higher clockspeeds. Hopefully by then, AMD will have the .13 micron Thoroughbred out.

I'd suggest doing a "search" in General Hardware . . . you'll find out lots of interesting tidbits.

Count me in too ... no point in thinking too far ahead yet, as I originally thought about a KT266A board with an Athlon 1.4 but by that time, things will again be different and *CHEAPER* so I remain happy with what I have and save my brain cells for more important immediate concerns. ;)
