planning to upgrade to an athlonxp from duron750, will i feel a difference?

I and not a hardcore gamer, and I rarely play games.

Will upgrading the cpu give me a faster boot time ?
will it give me an noticeble speed increase in windows?

if you like to mulititask alot yes there will be a big difference! If you just surf the web dont upgrade!

TBH i haven't noticed windows to be any faster, its only when you load up those games or high end apps do you feel the power

well it depends on your ram and board, if you are using sdram, then you won't notice a large different, but I can easily tell the difference between office apps and stuff running my XP over 1.5ghz compared to a 800 Tbird at work.

I think if you go with a XP 1700+ (or faster), DDR motherboard, and DDR PC2100 you will notice a difference.

Forget it., There are better ways to upgrade for a Office type user (which is what you sound like you are). Things like more RAM, or a faster HD (like SCSI)

I can see a difference between my Duron 900 and my Athlon 1.2 (266fsb). It loads apps quicker. That's about it. I don't game or run graphics intense applications. I use both machines for office type functions mainly and surfing so it doesn't really make any difference in the end. I can't balance my checkbook any faster on the Athlon than the Duron. The Duron actually boots faster than the Athlon by maybe 5 seconds and both have the same cards except for modems. Using TaskInfo (at idle) the Athlon utilizes about .5%-1% of processor capacity and the Duron uses about 1.2%-1.4% with the same number of tasks running. Depending on your mobo and memory there may be better ways to spend money on a upgrade but we are all guilty of getting the fastest, best, etc. just because.
