My venerable Acer TM8200 finally bit the dust. Got 6 good years out of it though, so I can only complain so much.
Anyway, I'm a college student on an extremely restricted budget (no more than $430 unless there's an amazing deal going on). Given that I have a decent desktop for gaming, the laptop's primary use will be coding, web-surfing, paper-typing and watching DVDs.
Toward that end I started shopping around, with a special eye for decent build quality. Lenovo is doing a refresh of the G-Series, and thankfully prices on some of last year's models have correspondingly dropped into my price range. I'm going for last year's model as it uses the Pentium B960 (2.2 GHz) as opposed to the B800 (1.5 GHz) in the refreshed model (refreshed model has an upgraded camera, HDMI out, and some other features I'll never use).
Specifically I'm going for this model:

I should add that I graduate in 2 years, at which point my degree will hopefully enable me to upgrade to something better. Also despite the G570's entry-levelness, every part of it is still a significant upgrade over my old Acer, which I considered adequate for my needs.
So my main question is about other options. Nothing against the G570, but I haven't payed the closest attention to the laptop world over the last few years. Any other options I should take a look at?
