Planning on using skype--headset or phone?

I'm planning on using skype to do some long-distance phone calls in the future.

What's a better solution: Buying a nice headset, or a buying a phone adapter or VOIP phone.

Tell me what you guys do.

I think a VOIP phone might be nice, but I just use a headset for Skype at this time, since it was a lot cheaper and I use it for other things as well.

Skype rocks, btw. For $29.95 a year I can call any phone in the U.S. or Canada, unlimited time. Pretty much can't beat it.

headset works great.
Me and a friend use it all the time when we're working on websites we're developing. Sounds just like a telephone 😀

Mmm I was just looking at cell phone plans for going away to college and realized that Skype would allow me to save a lot of money... unlimited calling in north america 😱
for just $30 plus the cost of the headset or phone.
and if I want "cell phone" capability I could get a wifi phone...

Actually, there are advantages to each---but headsets give you hands free operation and attach either via usb or to the soundcard. A usb type phone handset is nice also and quite a few models allow you to plug a headset into a port on the phone so you can do hands free that way also. And if you are willing to spend about $60.00 or more on a usb phone, you can get cordless models that allow you to go quite a distance from your computer and keep yaking away.

In MHO, skype has the best deal going---but who knows who will pop up to compete in the future--so the other thing to check is that the interface device is skype compatible--but also make sure its compatible with other VOIP providers. And if you have a mac or run Linus--make sure the interface device will be usable now and into the future---each new upgrade to skype often requires different drivers.

Sorry for the thread jack: How does Skype work calling from overseas (Europe) to North America? Is the plan the same? Can you call PC-->Landline or does it have to be PC-->PC?

Thanks.

As Stew said, you use a different rate system for international outside NA. The currency is Skype Credits, and from what I saw rates to many countries are as low as $.02 a minute.

I just ordered a Motorola HS-850 Bluetooth Wireless Headset refurbed for $30.00 from Overstock.com and a $6.00 dongle and am hoping that I can use Skype wirelessly to call Canada, not sure if it will work yet. I got in on it right at the beginning and it only cost me $15.00 for a year service. Will let you know in a few days how it works.
