Planning on selling my 7900GT to get an X1900XT

I have an eVGA 7900GT clocked at 564/1500 on stock cooling and volts. I'm planning on selling it for $220-$240. The X1900XT can be had for around $290 on newegg. Two issues though:
1. I game at 1280 by 1024, would it be that noticable if I changed video cards?
2. The 7900GT barely fit in my case, is the X1900XT significantly longer, I should get a pic of what I mean, there is an ide cable that is squeezed tightly behind the 7900GT and I worry it would not fit.
Thanks ahead of time.

edit: I forgot to add that I have a Centurion 5 case.

I have an Antec 1040 case which is a fairly good sized case and the x1900xt is a big card. It fits, but the getting the IDE cables, power cable for the card, and SATA cables organized might be hard if you have big hands.

If you have a small case....it could get ugly.

Wait for X1950XT , your are getting arround 20% performance increase at least and memory bandwith really helps with performance cuase of the 512bit bus ring that ATi cards have.

I play at 1280x1024 and have compared similar systems with my x1900xt and their 7900gt and the difference is slight. The biggest difference is in Half-Life 2.

Isn't the R600 right around the corner anyway?

There's always something "right around the corner". In the electronics market you either buy what you can when you can afford to and get the best you can get. Or you play the waiting game forever.

very true, I bought a single core cpu 2 weeks before the PD came out, then I bought a dual core X2 2 weeks before Core 2 Duo came out, talk about bad timing.
