If you want the best, nothing beats Crucial Ballistix. However, it is pretty expensive so I would recommend this.

As for the PSU; the Seasonic S12-500 is a great choice. You could go cheaper with something like a Fortron AX500-A though.

Want full-tower or mid-tower?

~$53 shipped - Antec SLK3000B

Why the Seagate 7200.8? Seagates latest offerings aren't as good as the 7200.7s sadly to say. the WD4000KD is a an awesome drive. almost as fast as a raptor, 400GB, and $200.

definitely a mid-tower. however, i'm not working on a budget so a ~$100 case would be fine. i was thinking of p180 but i'm afraid the psu cables won't reach. any good lian li suggestions? any good overclocking case suggestions (with good air flow i suppose)?

for the hard drive, i thought the seagate 7200.8 250 GB was a good deal. i really don't need more disk space than that. but i'm always open for suggestions.

I would switch the drive to the Western Digital w/ 16MB cache. Also, I have no idea how well the Muskin overclocks, but the G.Skill is cheaper and overclocks really well. Just look at some of the reviews.

Lian-Li Midtowers suck. There towers are alright, but my experience with their midtowers and the shittacious snap-in stand-off method for motherboards makes advising them impossible. Not to mention how easily the annodized exterior gets scratched. The P180 is a rather large 'mid' tower. Have you looked at the Gigabyte Aurora?

I'm suggesting the WD4000 for it's performance

i like p180's simple design. i might go with that if there aren't any problems with the cables reaching.

western digital 400GB is too much, and expensive. i looked at other 16mb cache ones. the 250 GB seems like a good deal. is it a better choice than seagate 7200.8 250GB?

Antec P180 for the case. i'm pretty sure you can get extensions for cheap if your cables don't reach.

The 250GB version of the Deskstar! You want a drive with 125GB platters! The performance difference between the two is significant. If you're overclocking the cpu, and buying a overclockers video card, this is obviously a gaming machine, right? Get the 250GB version

got it. and i just realized that opteron 148 was not dual core. should i still go for it (because of the overclocking capabilities) or should i switch to opteron 165?
