Ok my wife is getting tired of her job. She has been trying to talk me into letting her open a daycare center.

She would run it and all i would do is the paperwork and make sure bills get paid.

But she heard that there are a LOT of opportunities for women to get loans and grants. I have done a little research and the only places i found seem like scams. They want us to send them like $2k and they will send us a list of the loans and grants.

She has done some talking with people and we she has found 3 people willing to help (her mother who has a degree in child care and 2 friends that have enough college experience). Not to mention we have had plenty of people asking how much we would charge. Already got 8 kids (full time) that would join as soon as we opened.

We Have already started the application (need to be certified with DCFS) process. But i just feel like i am missing something.

i remember one person opening one. heh so any help would be appreciated!

Talk to DHS. You have to get certified I believe and all that, but I'm sure that someone who works with htat area a lot could lead you in the right direction in terms of other benefits and such that the job has to offer.

Check with the small business association. I am trying to get my wife into something like this as well so if you would like to ashare your overall experience that would be great. We live in a rapidly expanding town is in desperate need of more daycare centers.

Have fun interviewing and retaining employees. Be sure to run background checks on them, too.

yeap same here. Its a small town but growing fast and there are NO real daycar centers. just home daycare places.

We have only told a few people that we are even thinking of doing this and we are already getting calls to have there children put in. We already know we can have a max of 20 kids (unless we want to hire someone to help). We have 8 that have agreed to come fulltime. i dont think getting the other 12 is going to be much of a problem if we advertise.

Good luck with that. Wasn't it DonVito's wife who opened a day care? I can't remember for sure.

Edit: Ah, as usual, RossMAN knows all. :D

3 questions:

Which state?

What do you want to know exactly?

Where the hell did you find insurance at 189/month? I'm paying over 6K/year for property, casualty, vehicle and child coverage.

the state of lunacy. heh

norhtern IL. we been in contact in contact with DCFS wich licens's daycare's in IL. WE got a pack of stuff we need to do and what paperwook we need to fill out (that alone is going to take a few months).

I guess wha ti want to know is about grants. what grants are there for a women to start a business etc. How much to pay. The director of the place has to have a college degree, Teachers have to have 40credit hours of colleg and then we can hire helpers.

Well Thats just for the children and child coverage (at least from what i could understand) I guess i need to call back and make sure how much for everything. I dont think we need vehicles and the property is not that expensive.

heh heck i dont even know where to start to get the business license and financing! i didnt have to do any of this when i started my computer store (well financing or gratns etc).

If you haven't already, you MUST go rent Daddy Day Care. It's a hilarious Eddie Murphy movie about opening a Day Care Center.
