So yeah, what i plan on doing is going to the gym i signed up for and also exercising a bit more portion control. I'm a member of Costco so i get lots of fruit for cheap. I bring like 15 oranges on Monday now and i just eat oranges whenever i feel hungry instead of bad snacks.

Plus i eat fruit during my meals too in order to decrease the size of my normal meals...

I guess my question is: Fruit in an almost unlimited amount is ok, right?

wrong forum.

everything in moderation.

it's still carbs...lots of it.

To answer your question, no fruit is not ok to have in unlimited quantities. Nothing is good in unlimited portions.

Since fruit is nearly 0 fat, it'll be better than your other diet. However, there's a lots of sugars though. I'd count out your calories for a couple of days and make sure you're not eating like 3000 calories of fruits.

Vitamins, fiber- fruit is good.

Why is that? The human body can't digest fats. However the human body can and happily will convert sucrose into fat for you. The only drawback to a high meat-based protein diet is cholesterol.

The best bet would be just eat a health and BALANCED diet in moderation, and be more active. It's way more healthy than any sort of "focused" diet plan that takes out various nutrients that don't exist in that plan. And vitamins - yeah, ironically in a supplement odds are your body will only absorb about a tenth of what it needs from a supplement.

He was probably mixing a lot of simple carbs with bad fats. Switching to all fruit would be an improvement and he probably will lose some weight with it. You also tend to eat less when you're not taking in simple carbs- the more complex the food the longer you'll feel full.

Unlimited fruit is not good. But fruit in place of high calorie/fatty food/snacks is good.

What you're doing is fine OP.

Ok thanks guys, i'll absorb what you're saying and maybe cut down on the fruit a little... i think 3 oranges a day can't be that bad though :)

Though not entirely bad, if you are still keen on eating more fruit on this diet of yours, at least eat spread it out into other fruits.

For example, replace one orange with a banana to get some potassium.

It's better to eat a variety of fruits than to just eat a lot of one fruit.

Weight gain/loss always boils down to portions/calories in the end. Your body extracts energy from anything edible; extra energy (from overeating) gets converted to fat, period. Most of the fad diets that spring up are marketing garbage; the human body has worked the same way for thousands of years.

The only thing an "all-one-food" diet will do is make you malnourished ;)

There was a popular book in the mid 80s called Fit for Life that espoused a diet high in fruit. It was based on the earlier work of Dr. Herbert Shelton who is associated with the Natural Hygiene 'movement' in the 1920s. So there is a good foundation for such a diet.

Exactly. What the other folks above didn't tell you is that while fruit is high in sugar, it also fights cholesterol and is a superb choice for adding fiber in your diet.
Don't overdo it but do eat it. I'd also recommend eating green vegetables. Try roasting/grilling/sauteeing veggies and you'll find a whole different taste for them.
