So, care to clarify, or will that ruin your streak of posts that add no value to any discussion?

Just curious...

Well, I have been emailing back and forth with the dealer today. They have three '06 MS6's available, all are the Grand Toruing model with all the options, and they quoted me a price of $25,941. This seems like a decent price since it's less than a '07 normal 6 grand touring...

Any thoughts guys?

Insane, get the Legacy GT. I have one, it's amazing, end of story.

Edit: I know you're looking for a new one, but get one a year old if you can. Nice depreciation hit, and probably not many miles.

I'm sure it is, but I'm sure the Mazdaspeed 6 is amazing in it's own right. In fact, I'd say it's more performance oriented than the Legacy GT...

Find me an Legacy GT with a 6 speed for that price...

Well, been doing al ittle insurance shopping...I'm so screwed no matter what I get it seems.

The MS 6 is actually less to insure, than the 6S...weird.

But, I'm looking at $1200 - $1400 / 6 months for full coverage...yay. :\

Welcome to my life, the LGT I have runs me $1260 every 6 months.

I never thought I'd look forward to turning 25 so much.

Nah...and actually, only one of those was within the last three years...

Both times I happened to open the old girl up for a bit with unseen or unmarked state troopers behind me... :\ I was only going that fast for maybe, 10 seconds?

How is it a poor financial decision? He plans on driving the car into the ground, a good enough justification to buy new. If he was buying the car only to sell in 3 years, then yes, bad financial decision, but he isn't even considering selling the car...

Anyways, my vote goes to the Subaru Legacy GT if you can get it close to the 25k mark.

I love the Subie too guys, but if I can get a brand new Speed 6 with all the bells and whistles for the same price a used Subie will cost...and it's got more HP to boot...I just can't justify that.

Man, this is going to be a PITA until my insurance rate drops...~$750/mo for car payment and insurance...

BTW, the Subie is a bit cheaper on insurance the the MS6, but not much..like..$200 less year.

I pay $700 a year in taxachusetts for insurance, 24 y/o with clean record. Liberty Mutual FTW.

Legacy GT is a bit faster than the ms6, even though the ms6 has more hp. The MS6 has a lot of weight which takes away from the overall speed.

you can get a new Honda Accord EX-L V6 6-speed for about $25K. I got $25.5 as a first offer on a 2007 from the first dealer I emailed.

0-60 in 5.9 seconds is not bad, and it's a MUCH nicer car than the Legacy, Mazda, or Pontiac. The only way you can go faster in this class is with the Mazdaspeed 6, and that is likely out of your price range. also it drinks 93 octane. i don't know about you, but i have yet to see 93 octane for sale at a station. 91, yes. 93, no.

edit: i forget to mention that the Accord's resale value is pretty much untouchable. if you drive it into the ground, it's one of the only cars on the planet that is as cheap over time to buy new as it is to buy used.

i've looked into this segment a lot because i will also buy a similar car soon. despite my frequent trips to the snow, i still think the accord is a better car than the legacy. the interiors are no contest, and the accord is quicker when you put the hammer down. no turbo lag, no AWD parasites, and a great noise. it's also completely stealthy.

it also has pretty much the highest insurance rates this side of a Ferrari. when you figure that in, you can go faster for less money in other cars.

Thanks, but if you read the thread, I've already been offered a price of $25k on a '06 Mazdaspeed 6. Why would I get a boring car like that when I could have the MS6?

:p

i'd drive both if i were you. Car and Driver rated the Accord much higher than the MS6 in their recent comparison test of sports sedans, and these are people who love to drive fast. the difference to 60 MPH is surprisingly small, and the accord is just so much nicer inside. it also handles well, communicates well with the driver, turns in nicely, and screams to the redline. and then there's the resale value, and the fact that the V6 in the accord will run hard for 200,000 miles, while the insanely boosted 2.4l in the Mazda will probably be blowing gaskets long before then. mazda doesn't have the best rep for engines right now. and insurance is more. and it attracts more po-po attention. if money is an object (and it is), realize that the mazda will cost you a lot more money in the long run and won't be much more fun to hussle.

So brand new is a requirement? Cause I would have suggested a used G35x (it's AWD).

How about a VW GTI? I'm not a fan of VW, but I love the GTI. Mmmmm

Indeed, the GTI MK5 is a very nice car. It feels large when you sit inside, the cabin is very nice if you ask me and it has gobs of lowend torqe.

But I don't know about the the wiring, VW are a real hit or miss when it comes to that.

Thanks for the posts guys...

Anyone think I could find a better deal than ~$25k on a brand new '06 Mazdaspeed 6? I'm going to go test drive a couple tomorrow...

Out of those options, I would get the GTP. I've never been a fan of the Mazda 6s. How about an loaded accord?

For the GT trim, that is very good. You are getting a 275HP, turbocharged, AWD car w/ leather, power everything and HID's.

You just can't get a better bargain than that.

Yep. But I messed up. I thought nav was standard on the GT trim, not an option. So drop that off the list.

But still, it's a lot of zoom zoom and creature comfort for the $$.
