The Q6600 can only support DDR2 and not DDR3 correct? Are only the new Penryns going to support DDR3? When are the Penryn based ~$300 Quads comming out?

Also are there motherboards that support DDR2 and DDR3 so that I can upgrade to DDR3 later when the prices come down?

What are your recomendations for motherboards? Motherboard + RAM combinations?

Gigabyte GA P35C series boards support both DDR2/DDR3 and should be compatable with the 45nm chips.

DDR3 is supported but it is also expensive as crap versus the DDR2 (about 4x the cost of good quality DDR2-800 that will run >1000 with a touch of extra voltage and slightly loosened timings). DDR3 is not necessary yet -- wait until Nehalem launches and it becomes mainstream before making the move to that technology.
