I have done a lot of reading and have came up with these:

AMD 64 3200+ venice
DFI lanparty nf4 ultra-D
OCZ PC4000 EL Gold VX 512x2
MSI 6600GT pcie
xp-90 heatsink
monitor...17" lcd using dvi below $300, undecided
power supply... undecided

Can you guys comment on these? I'm trying to balance those hardware so please tell me if anything is underpower or overkill. I will be overclocking ram and cpu to the max.

What would be an ideal wattage and 12v rail amp to look for? any specific ones recommended? same for monitor, any suggestions?

Thanks

Welcome to AT.

I agree with the ram being overkill is this what you were planning on getting? Unless you're overclocking like crazy, you'll get almost the same performance with ram that costs about $100.

You can get a gig of corsair value select for $85 right now. You could get some twinMOS ram that can take a lot of voltage and get really fast timings out of it for only $120 or something.

With the money saved you could upgrade to a X800XL or a 6800gt and have a much better increase in gaming performance than faster ram would have gotten you.

eWiz has some great deals on Seasonic powersupplies right now.

but the value vx doesn't have the 2-2-2 timing... or can i clock it to that?

dang u guys reply fast hehe

well i'm planning to overclock the venice to 2.8ghz on air and i know the ram can run asyn with the cpu but i dont want it to be the bottle neck in the build.

I really hate looking for ram, can you suggest a specific value ram that has 2-2-2 timing with good overclocking potential?

ok that's awesome... it can do like 260 @ 2-2-2-5.... very impressed

now monitor part... any specific 17" lcd recommendation? i know to look at response time and contrast but i'm new in that area so i don't know what to compare it to

I'm totally clueless on LCDs. I've got my 19" NEC CRT and they're going to have to pry it from my cold, dead hands if they want me to switch to LCD.

I know the Hyundai ImageQuest L90D+ is a great 19" LCD, but that doesn't help you much ;)

my bro has a 19" nec crt too :) i know it looks awesome cuz he does professional photo editing on it.

i would go with crt because it has all the advantages but space. i want to have "computer-dinners" and more paperwork space

All the Seasonic S12s have 24-pin mobo plugs (and all S12s are dual-rail). The 400 in the Super Tornado line has the 24-pin plug if you want to go single-rail.

HTH.

if i'm not mistaken, the value ram is only good when they have the higher end chips. which chip should i be looking for in twinmos and ocz vx value?

edit: and whats the difference between having 2 12v rails and having 1?

bump and a question about power supply

I heard zalman is one of the quietest, but even the 400w version only provides 18A, is that enough to power the above system(venice 3200+ OC to 2.8, value ram OC, 6600GT stock)

Yes, Zalman can relieve your stress. Zalman > * in cpu heatsinks.

For power supply, I might suggest you to try OCZ ones.

The S12 is the dual-rail, newer version of the Super Tornado.

Both are the quietest fan-cooled PSUs you can buy. The highest-powered Tornado would be the 400W, puts out 22 amps on the single 12V rail, and it has the 24-pin plug.

HTH!
