I'm starting to plan my annual vacation with my friends, we're thinking Barcelona this spring because one of us has a cousin there (We've done Italy, Greece, Belgium/Amsterdam in the past).

Assuming we are going to be spending 8-9days in Spain with 3-4days in Barcelona, what other places should be visit?

I don't know what other places but you can easily spend 8-9 days in Barcelona alone. It's great!

The little lady and I are going there next fall, we aren't sure where we will start, but i would like to spend a few days exploring the northern coast. Hopefully surf Mundaka. :D
We plan on 2-3 days in Barcelona though.

I didn't like Barcelona too much when I was there. Kinda too new with big modern type buildinds. Reminded of the Fort Lauderdale of Spain or something. I liked Seville (sp?) and I enjoyed traveling the NW region, I beleive it was called the Costa Verde. I traveled the back roads, people were still using hand made horse drawn carts to get around. Craggy beautiful coast. Didn't care for the big cities over there. Forgeting the name(s). There was one cool place, if I could remember you'd recognize it. It's a coastal town on the NW border of France, Basque counrty. Great tapas bars. Maybe it was San Sebastian.

You might wanna think about Lisbon, the big city in Portugal. There are real pretty beaches in the Souther Coast of Portugal, but very touristic.

If you wanna scare the sh1t oout of yourself, go down to Gibraltar and take the boat ride to Cueta on the tip of Morroco. Spain actually owns that tip, but that's the @sshole of the world. Really very weird place.

How you gett'n around? Train, car, plane?

Enjoy your trip,

Fern

I went to Spain a couple of years ago. My two favorite sections were the Pyrenies (sp?) between France and Spain...especially closer to Barcelona. Beautiful area, and you can find a lot of really neat small towns as well as some cool ski resort areas. We drove into France a lot and I really loved the people there...unbelievably nice and accomodating. Was able to get rediculously good rates at some Bed and Breakfasts there.

I also really enjoyed San Sabastion very close to France on the Northwestern coast. BEAUTIFUL views and a really cool city. There are also a lot of neat coastal towns along that coast as you move way from France and toward Portugal. Neat Stuff.

We also spent some time in Barcelona...and while it was fun...I didn't think it was nearly as much fun as the other places...although with all my travels to Europe, I've rarely like the bigger cities...they just remind me of cities we have here in the states. I much prefer the country side and smaller cities. The people tend to be SOOOOO much more friendly and accomodating. The only large city where I actually thought the people were nice was Dublin, Ireland. Well pretty much anywhere in Ireland the people are beyond nice to tourists.

Same here, bro. I spent two years driving around in upfitted combi van. I really like the smaller places.

But I do like Rome, Paris & London. Maybe cuz I lived in Paris & London. Rome's just cool. People are really friendly and the food is great.

went to spain a couple years ago.

if you want to go up north: the Bilbao museum is absolutely AMAZING! northern spain is awesome. Pamplona, too.

Barcelona, Marbella, Malaga, Sevilla are all good. In Barcelona I stayed on las ramblas. It was awesome. There is so much to do in Barcelona. I also spent a week in a resort in Malaga. The cities down south near the Mediterranean are very pretty.

Hopefully you speak spanish. That made it easier for me. I was nowhere near fluent, but I could get by easily.

Word...

From Barcelona, you can take a ferry straight across for about $40

Do you know how long the ferry is? I would definately like to go to Ibiza but my two friends are not so much clubbing people, they still like drinking though.

Barcelona alone.

Or if you really want to visit something else in such a short amount of time... the Valencia is awesome.
Or just have fun on the beaches of Llorett de Mar or Tossa de Mar.

I know many Americans will say they are Canadian when in Europe. In Spain though never say you are Canadian. Spaniards do not like Canadians at all.
