PLanned build, thoughts?

Thanks for any advice, I've been planning this over the last two months, will be placing the orders over the next few days, just looking for anything I may have missed, like if you know something won't fit, or won't work with that setup.

Cheers.

I can't think of any good reasons to buy:

Sound Card Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Fatal1ty

Even if you have plenty of money to burn, there isn't a good reason to take that over the other versions.

Total cost is about $6000 Australian

I'm getting the Fatal1ty because I really want the front drive bay, and can get it for about $200 less than it's normal price thanks to some connections.

Conroe>AMD s939 and AM2

This is probably the thing that has me debating the most, but I've come to te decision to buy now for a few reasons.

First, I'm using a computer that was only mid-range when we bought it 4 1/2 years ago. I want to enjoy myself NOW! 😛 I don't want to wait a few more months when i own games I want to run but can't. I have over a dozen games I own that I can't play yet.

Secondly, Opteron's have been around for a while now, s939 boards have been around for a while as well. I don't want to have to deal with the teething problems a new system will invariably have. This will last me for the next 2-3 years easy, I should think, the only potential problem I see coming in the future is DX10, so I may need a vid cars upgrade a bit earlier, but only if it gets to the point where all the games coming out that I want to play require a DX10 vid card.

If you're overclocking, an opty 175 might be a little overkill, you could get the 170, it's unlikely it'll hurt your overclock. If you're not overclocking, then you might be wasting money on that RAM. I'd normally suggest the xt instead of xtx, but i haven't seen an xt with the iceQ cooler, so xtx should be fine.

You'll be almost crying when you see the hole in your wallet, but when you get her up and running, that'll be one nice pc.

Nothing really wrong with it, but some parts could be switched in for a lower cost at the same performance level. Especially if you aren't planning to get a second XTX.

I'm planning on overclocking. I chose the 175 for the higher multiplier, so I could keep the RAM timings as tight as possible. Of curse, this was back when a 2.6-2.7 OC would push the timings on the Corsair 3500LL Pro. I honestly haven't looked at what frequency I could get with a X10 multiplier, and how the OCZ behaves at that frequency, I'll have a look now, thanks.
