I installed a hollow-core prehung door in our master bathroom back in April. It was already primed and we painted it within a week of hanging it but for some reason it has decided to expand with the weather. I can see that the top latch edge of the door has no gap and is sticking (compared to 1/8" on the other side).

My question is, how much room do I have to plane with a hollow-core door? I could not might must info online. A couple places said don't plane more than 3/4". I would really prefer not to replace the door.

The really odd thing is that everything is level/plumb.

the door will expand about the same along one side from the weather. if it is sticking it means it was not installed right and there was not enough gap in the first place. im sure the rails are fiberboard ( paper) and if it is a low quality, cheap door i would not go more than 1/2 inch to retain some strength. the side rail on a door is normally thinner than the top and bottom rails. see if you can put a longer screw into one of the hinge screw spots to draw the door over to the stud to fix the problem before cutting the door out of square. level the hinge side first and then make sure you have an even margin around the rest of the door.
