Has anyone played Planetside.

I have always wanted to play an MMOFPS, I just tried EVE but it was RPG... Is planetside any good?

Ya know - I played it on and off for a few months and then just gave it up. I tried the free trial a few months ago and I'd have to say it's definitely not worth it. Graphics issues aside, the game play just isn't up to par with what you'd want a huge MMOFPS like that to be.

I played planetside like 4 years ago or longer. It looked ok in its day but some of the expansions release totally unbalanced an unbalanced game to begin with. Spawn camping was rampant and cheaters were more plentiful than cardboard boxes at a Chinese dumpling factory.....

5 years ago, it was awesome. Large continent-wide battles. Ebb and flow of the conflict dependent on one or two key outfits taking out key generators and towers.

God, how I did love that game.

Then came Core Combat. Along with the BFR's that made it into a 'dodge the big guy in a walking tank' game.

I tried it out about a year ago pretty heavily. Just didn't have the same flair as it did in the past. I felt I was an old man playing a kids game.

I still have my original Beta disks. I'll never get rid of those. Or the many memories of that game. For example, a buddy and I took down every single generator on Oshur (before the so-called "event" happened when Oshur was one continent). Set up an AMS right in teh middle of the map, matrixed ourselves to it and did it. It was the first time that anyone had denied power to an entire continent in the game. Needless to say the Vanu were pretty pissed at us. We caught their attention and had pop-locked the continent for the Vanu's as they were running around trying to find the two of us. This caused both the NC and TR to accomplish their goals without outside influence from teh Vanu.

Are there any good MMOFPS to date then - or is this the only one ever created?

As far as I know, it's the only one ever created. There is Huxley coming out, but when that game is coming out I don't know. Some may say Tabula Rasa is a MMOFPS, but they'd be lying. That game is currently in the beta stage.

I actually played it in 2003 when it first came out and it was sweet. Literally thousands of people on at all times and crazy battles each night. Then I stopped playing it and signed up 6 months later and it was nearly deserted.... I can't imagine how slow it must be now.

I think Neocron 2 is mmofps but not sure. never played it and it doesn't seem to get good reviews

You can try Planetside for free I believe, through SoE's reserves program. You're capped out at level 6, but it's enough to get you deep enough into any certificate tree to be effective. Plus, for the first week it doesn't matter since you can reset your certificates at any time for free.

(you get one certificate per level, and they are what allow you to use different types of guns, equipment, vehicles)

Is that game, what is it called, Tabula Rasa I think ? Isn't that one supposed to be in the same veins than Planetside ? Just asking, not sure myself, I do know it's going to be a science-fiction MMORPG though.

TR is not a FPS. Point and click with WASD movement. I know because I know. And that's all I can say about that.
