If you want to get in the Planetside Beta, but they have not selected you, sign up for FilePlanet (part of the GameSpy network). There are multiple bennies such as being able to download damn near any patch for any game (within the past few years), awesome selection of demos, @$$tons of mods for bu++-tons of games, hot full size game and movie trailers, and NO WAITING FOR DOWNLOADS from HIGH speed servers (as opposed to waiting hours to download from congested public servers).
They also have many subscriber exclusives, like this beta, and the recent Command & Conquer: Generals beta.

EXCLUSIVE Planetside Beta @ Fileplanet
FilePlanet Subscribers have the opportunity to join the private beta test of PlanetSide, the Massively Multiplayer Online First-Person Action game from Sony Online Entertainment. Beta keys are limited, so download today!

For the trolls/vultures:
There is only one Planetside post in the hot deals forum, and it does not involve a hot deal other that stating that the beta is now open public.
Open Public still requires a key, which fileplanet provides. Can you get a key simply by applying at station.sony.com? Of course you can. If you're one of the 5% picked. This is garunteed.

I just signed up for free on their website and they gave me an account within 24 hours. I suggest trying that. And yes, the whole fileplanet subscriber thing is seriously whacked...no matter how you feel about it, it's clear that game companied aren't making many friends in the gaming community by doing these things.

It's best to just find a friend who wants an account and go in together (make sure the friend never checks his credit card statement and that you use his cc). FilePlanet will bill recursively and you get access from just paying $4 to a friend.

And you get to lose a friend for being a jackass!

I applied on the sony site for the planetside beta and got in :) I don't think the competition for accounts is that fierce, as long as you have a nice system with 512MB of RAM and write good answers to their questions you should be all set :)

errr..on second check..looks like they aren't accepting beta applications anymore :(

Well should be out may 19th according to the site :)

This isn't a thread crap, cause PS is a pretty fun game...but I just wanted to make sure everyone knew the beta is more than likely only going on for about another 2 weeks. It's possible they'll push it back, but the dev's seem pretty set on that date....

This game is buggy and not fun. It's hard to find "hot spots" to get some action. They need to throw some bots in there so we don't need constant 6000 poeple in the game just to find someone to kill for exp.

It's open beta...so almost everyone shoulda got in. About 50 people that I know all got into the open beta phase, hehe. In any event, the game comes out in a month.

It's buggy because it's beta. It's cool to hop on and play, but at the point it is at now, I won't be paying $15 a month to play it when it goes gold.

GET into PS with this got questions PM me

---following excerteed from email to me from Sony

Need someone to watch your back in PlanetSide(tm)? Got a friend who's
itching to get online and join your Empire? We know you do, so read on!

Many of you have been asking about it, and now the time has arrived -
we want you to get your friends online and join our beta test! We all
know just how integral the formation of Squads and Outfits are in
PlanetSide, and now we're giving YOU the opportunity to recruit your friends.
Whether you enlist in a Squad together, or decide to strike out and
form your own, the fight for total domination can start right here! Just
forward the instructions below to your new recruit. (Minimum system
requirements are 256MB of RAM with 1Ghz CPU or faster, and a Direct3D
compliant video card with at least 32MB of Video RAM).

Step 1) Register your Station Account into the PlanetSide fan club by
visiting www.planetside.com/beta/direct_user.jsp. The form MUST be
completed all the way through to the End User License Agreement. This is
important, otherwise, parts of the PlanetSide beta website will NOT be
accessible! (The same page has options for creating a new Station Account
if you do not have one currently)

Step 2) Download the PlanetSide web installer from
www.planetside.com/beta/PlanetSideInstall.zip (approx 250k in size). Extract the file to
your desktop (PlanetSideInstall.exe) and run it.

Step 3) Within a few minutes, you should see the PlanetSide Launchpad
with the License Agreement, and a small "Welcome to the Station!"
window. Click CONTINUE, then read the License agreement.

Step 4) Be SURE to sign in with the Station Account used to register
for the fan club from Step 2. You will then be prompted to SUBSCRIBE to
PlanetSide.

Here is the subscription key for PlanetSide beta: PS17F9YTV8D94TP6EVM0

Once the account is activated, the full client will then begin
installation (a progress bar will indicate time remaining).

Step 5) After the download completes, click PLAY and join the Auraxis
server.

We highly encourage you to visit the beta website at
www.planetside.com/beta for information regarding the beta test and its current state.

Happy downloading, and we'll see you online!

Sincerely,

-The PlanetSide(tm) Team
Sony Online Entertainment

Or you could stop looking for an easy way to get in betas and wait to be choosen.

All it takes is time, I got in PlanetSide, SWG, and EVE-Online. Too bad i can't get Galaxies to work and EVE-Online stopped working since the last time they patched it.

Nice to try for free, and give the Dev's feedback on. But I most likely wouldn't pay the $15 per month to play, even if i got the initial software package free. Just me though.
And fileplanet rox.
But you bitter trolls can continue to hunt, dig, and do everything else you need to do to find your files, and then download from a slow site, or wait in line at a nice site. Hah. Be bitter, you deserve it. :D
But you trolls do sounds like the same people who now complain "$15 for a CD? OMG OMG OMG OMG! The record companies are ripping us off! I'm just gonna Kazaa the album".

Support something you like? No way... Just leech it, leech!

If there is anyone who has a real, compelling NEED for the PS beta, I received an email a bit back where they said "invite a friend to play with you, give him this registration number etc" that I never gave to anyone. Best story can have it. IM me (not PM, my PMs are about full, I know how many people read this forum, and, following with the spirit of the thread, I refuse to buy an AT subscription when I get what I want for free).

What can I say, all of AT is my friend. Obviously I didn't take to the beta - I'm too busy playing BF1942! :D
