Planetside 2 set to break world FPS record tonight (24-01-15))

Its happening, the world record for 'Most Players Online in a single FPS battle' currently stands at 999 players, set in 2012 by a sandbox game called Man vs Machine (which really wasnt a game anyone would play, more like a tech test for the purpose of setting the record).

Day to day Planetside 2 already hosts over that number of players on a regular basis but without adjudication its just another day on Auraxis. Tonight the planetside battles team in conjunction with SOE have prepared a special server where we hope to see 1,100 players join and play on a single continent and have that officially adjudicated by the Guinness team and entered as the new world record.

Planetside 2 servers currently host up to 1200 per continent (400 per faction, x3 factions, x4 continents) as standard, it used to be more but it was reduced to 1200 for performance reasons.

There is a queue for full continents and that happens quite frequently during prime time alerts, in effect the record has been broken many times over @1200 but only unofficially.

Tonight is the first official attempt on a non-public server segregated and monitored by SOE and the Guinness team.
 
Yeah I thought it was 300x3 per continent, not sure if 400x3 is correct or not, maybe SOE upped it, but it definitely was lower before.
 
We did it!! Planetside 2 is now the record holder yay!! New record set at 1158 players!

(no is definitely 400x3, the most we ever had was 2000 but it just couldnt cope, now its 1200)
