Forgive me if this has been posted before.

Anyone try Planetary Annihilation (Early Access) on Steam yet?

Our pricing for this stage of early access was determined by our Kickstarter. The stages of our early access for ALL users, which was determined during our Kickstarter, is:

June through August: $90 for early alpha access, during the time where we're still locking down features and making tweaks to the flow of the game. This access is permanent access - you will be able to play through alpha, beta and on through retail. (Galactic Edition Equivalent with all addons)
It's a bit pricey, but it's really an extension of their funding scheme.
I don't game much anymore, but I still play Total Annihilation from time to time as I have for about 14 years (a few years after it came out). I wasn't too into Supreme Commander, but this looks likes a truly crazy and crazy fun RTS with a lot of the appeal of the original Annihilation game.

I might purchase it next week after I get a discrete card, as I'm currently on a APU (A4-5300) which is really only good for light gaming.

The price will be $60 in beta and $40 on release I think. It's full of issues right now as its still 6 months from release but there's a lot of potential for it to be great. Don't expect to buy it right now and be entertained for more than a few hours just based on all the issues and incompleteness right now. It also runs pretty poorly right now since its not optimized at all.

It's probably the game I'm most looking forward to, just hope 6 months is long enough to polish it up cus it is pretty rough atm but could be amazing. The guy writing the engine was the main programmer behind the engine on TA and Supcom.

I don't really like having spherical maps vs traditional flat maps in Supcom, but depending how much multiple planet warfare adds to the game it could work out better in the end. None of that stuff is in the game yet though.

Seems pretty pricey to me considering it seems like it's taking the Mech Warrior reboot and will be free to play.
Looks interesting though.

As far as I know the current price is the one from kickstarter for the Galactic Edition with the perks that come with that. The price for release is meant to be cheaper- 50-ish?

And it's in alpha, expect an alpha level product. Still in the works so no major balance and optimization

I'm amazed at how much work was done in such a short amount of time.

I wouldn't spend $90 for a game (any game, under any circumstances). But with this said Planetary Annihilation won't remain expensive for long and will - just like pretty much all other games on Steam - eventually drop in price, by half or even more, in a matter of a few weeks (we all know it's going to happen guys, no games ever released on Steam escaped a dramatic price reduction, even if it was just momentary).

It'll eventually cost no more than maybe $30 (or less). For many it's of course a question of personal financial situations (if you can afford it though, then good!). I for one am done buying games at $50 or $60 brand new (on day one, week one, "when it's new" is the gist of it). I think that the last game I bought on release day at full price was Diablo III. All my other post-D3 paid non-F2P games were bought on sales or a couple of weeks (or months) after their release (and had their prices significantly cut, mostly on Steam).

Nevertheless, it's going to be a good thing if some folks around can financially afford to pay that much, since it'll surely help the devs. And just in case, don't get me wrong here. I'm pretty sure that they do need the money. No business, no devs out there would just say "oh no no, actually guys we're doing fine, heck we could even release it for free!". Yeah they all need money, but that's not my point here, my point is simply that not many consumers will be able to afford to pay that much, period (regardless of how much the devs genuinely need said money).

You realize this is a large scale RTS along the lines of total annihilation and supreme commander, and has nothing at all to do with mechwarrior type of games..?

Well..at first glance it sounds pricey for a unfinished game that will be released at a lower price, but I suppose with people paying $100's on Kickstarter...do you get the same bonuses as kickstarter? Or does it just cost $90?

The Mech Warrior reboot reference is they seem to imply there will ultimately be a f2f play version. Hence spending $90 for early access seems even more expensive. Its not meant to be a game comparison.
Personally I'd never pay $90 for a game before it's even released.

Where does it say there will be a F2P version?

I bought 2 licenses during the kickstarter for $20 each - one for myself and one for a friend.

I guess I'm wrong, I really thought I remember them saying f2p was in its future.
Regardless I want this game to be great I simply don't plan on spending more than $20-40 for it.

Got the Beta, feels like Alpha to me still.

I second this.

Even by videogame beta standards, it's pretty rough. Like, more so than MWO, if you're unlucky enough to know what I'm talking about.

They're planning on releasing around December. I don't think Uber can turn it into a solid game by then.

Have had Alpha access but was only able to play it once. I know I did not like the whole round map thing. It made the minimap much less useful than previous games like SupCom. I don't know if they improved it in the beta haven't had a chance to try it yet.

I have the Beta and am enjoying myself immensely, though most people who have it seem to not really understand how to play. I get that TA and SupCom were never really huge, but I played them dammit, why didn't they!? :p

I really look forward to them honing the game play and adding all the bits that are yet to be implemented. There are some clear areas that need work in my mind, like the camera, and the orbital controls, but as things stand I am pretty happy with how things are shaping up.

I too wonder about the planned release date of December and will be really impressed if they can get it finished by then, in the meantime I'm going to focus on enjoying what I have.

Sounds like I have plenty of time for them to polish things before it hits the $12.95 steam sale.

I'm hoping like hell that it will be more like Total Annihilation and nothing like Supreme Commander. Sadly, I know I'll be disapointed.

I feel the same way and also I really doubt the December release. They were like a month late on beta and its still got some ways to go imo.

Yeah, there's great potential here. Here's hoping they still have the funding to take the time needed to polish the think. I'd much rather wait until 2014 if it meant a fully polished game.

still too rich for me $20-40 is my sweet spot. I noticed new beta build for it on steam.
I guess the real issue is will kickstarter money last until the game is ready?
