Do you guys think this is a good enough card to run the game on max settings with at 1900x1200 resolution?
Nope because no computer in the world can run this game at max settings. I have a 7850 and I can run it at medium at 60 fps, but only at 1600 x 900. Also I have heard it is quite CPU intensive, so your CPU will be important.
They have only have ultra settings because the game is going to be around for a while so PCs in 2 or 3 years will be able to max it out.
I can run max settings with SLI 580s.
What about an I7-3770k? I purchased it along with my 7870. I've heard that it is more CPU intensive. I only wish that the manufacture would tell us what we needed to run at max settings.
I'm playing it now, its CPU limited, my GPU is not even close to max load. Get 40-50 fps in some areas.
Game Engine and Mechanics
PlanetSide 2 uses SOE's Forgelight engine which in turn uses nVidia's PhysX API for its physics engine[3]. This enables more realistic vehicle handling compared to the previous PlanetSide, especially when it comes to flying aircraft. Weather and day/night cycles are also possible as well as volumetric fog and clouds which players can hide in. Bullets are also simulated by the physics engine so players will need to compensate while aiming.
Another improvement over PlanetSide is the introduction of locational damage for soldiers and vehicles (a.k.a. hitboxes). This is customisable by the developers so that a sniper rifle shot to the head can have a huge bonus while high rate of fire weapons, such as the Mini Chaingun, and vehicles have no bonus.[4]
I'm just installing this game, I'll let you know how it runs on a stock clocked 7950 on 1080p. Will take a while, 7GB to download...
Just tested. With Sapphire 7950 boost at stock clocks and i7-3770K @ 4.2, I got framerate between 40 and 60, usually closer to 60, at maximum settings. GPU load was around 75-95%, and it didn't seem all that CPU bottlenecked either, here's a Task Manager shot. It just seems to be poorly optimized. I don't know if it matters for the framerate that I have it installed on a 5400RPM hard disk...
It's designed for quad cores so 3770K vs 3570K is unlikely to show any difference.
