In this thread, idiot bigots defend some idiot bigot.

Pieces of shit like you people are the reason why transgenders kill themselves so often.

This might sound insenitive, but is it possible that the reason so many transgenders kill themselves is that there are underlying mental issues to begin with?

Bullshit. A man shouldn't be allowed into a woman's locker room just because he identifies with being a woman. Period. I don't blame these women for being uncomfortable and complaining.

This; I'm not ok with the policy of 'self report, genuine transgender' as it is way too vague. I don't want my gf, nor my mom, having to change in front of what is likely (not certainly, but likely) as very delusional pervert.

She had every right to complain - speak to a manager, write letters, etc.

She had no right to walk around declaring there is a transgender person in the woman's bathroom, because she was basically looking to gather a mob.

Now, if there was an immediate threat of some sorts, then yes; yell, scream, shout, cry, screech - get the fuck out, call the police and obviously defend yourself. But, I don't see anything here that posed a threat to warrant 'warning' other women.

She should have just spoke to a manager, got their official "fuck off, we don't care" response and then asked for her money back. Then she could have caused a public stink about how she wasn't warned about transgender members in the changing rooms and her concerns were not properly addressed.

Also, if a transgender male is a threat to the women in the change room, then isn't a homosexual male a threat to the men in the change room?

Youre worried that a woman might come into the mens changing room or that a woman might shout at you next time you go into the ladies?

Yes ... very, very worried. My main complaint about PF is their selective enforcement of the "rules". Example: PF posts signs which CLEARLY state no cell phone usage in the gym ... take it to the lobby area. 2 out of three times i visit a schlub is using their cell phone in plain sight of the sign warning not to. Saturday, a woman using an eliptical machine was listening to loud music ... while using a headset ... while using her cell, only 2 feet from one of those signs.

If you are not going to enforce the "rules" ... why have the rules to begin with?

The overt hatred of society is far more likely to be causing the problem.

I have a friend who is now post-op trans. She is supported by her family and social circle and is a far kinder and more accepting person than all the judgmental assholes here.

What trouble would it cause for this person to use the bathroom which matches his physical gender?

Because that is not the mental gender they are.
What's more important/meaningful, the physical gender or the mental.

Hint: What you're about to answer is wrong.

Edit: what if they were post-op? Then what room should they use?

this. i agree. she had every right to bring it up. As she should have. she had a guy walk into the womens changing room.

What do with trans people? Not sure. Frankly there is no "fair" outcome.

The easiest solution for all cases is to have a unisex bathroom. I'm sorry, but I don't agree that if Joe suddenly feels he is a woman mentally that he is entitled to use the woman's facilities. How do you know that Joe is being honest and isn't a pervert masquerading as a transgendered person just to get into the woman's locker room to get a free show?

This, I must admit, is quite disconcerting to me. I honestly can't say what's right or wrong here. As a woman would I be uncomfortable with a person that looks like a man changing in the same room as myself? Then again transgender people should have the rights as every other human being. So i'm torn on this one.

Wow! This topic is a bigot attractant for sure.

Bottom line, we had a person that was genetically male, but identified as female. She wore lipstick, dresses, and pumps to work but still used the male restroom to eliminate any controversy.

It was a bit odd the few times I was at the urinal and heard those pumps walking in, but that was MY unease and only because it was "different" from what I'd experienced my entire life basically.

Bottom line, this woman was out of line and she paid the price.

For those that wish to challenge me on the matter, I would have no problem with a genetic woman who is transgender being in my locker room or even showering area. I've always wondered anyway why we get so worked up about something that is almost literally a 50/50 split in terms of gender and equipment. It's like being pissed off that the quarter in your pocket shows the heads side sometimes when you go to spend it. Fucking stupid.

Oh, also, go ahead and mentally replace "transgender" with "black" in your opinions and think about that for a second. Go ahead...I'll wait.

Its pretty simple biology:

Boys have a penis, girls have a vagina. I don't get why this is such a sensitive topic?

How do you know the guy standing next to you isn't homosexual and sizing up your naked body? WHO CARES. Let 'em look. Hell, charge em if you can!

I COMPLETELY agree that unisex changing rooms would resolve a lot of these issues. But I also believe then we'd just be talking about some other situation where somebodies sensitivities were infringed upon. People need to grow thicker, more excepting skin.

I don't 'get' transgenders. How do you know 'I feel like a man/woman even though I was born a woman/man?' Uh, you've only ever been one gender. You have no empirical evidence for what it 'feels like' to be the other. I see it more as 'I'm gay and very, very confused.'

...but whatever. People can do whatever the fuck they want until it actually impacts someone else. It can be argued that this DOES impact others, but that's only assuming our strange historic standard of infinite modesty between genders and zero modesty among the same.

I can personally say that I wouldn't have any special concern over a gay guy meatgazing in the men's locker room. Are there people that think that if a homosexual sees their privates, they've basically been raped or something?

I'm sure there are. I'm also sure that some of those people are members here.

A biological male has a penis. A biological female has a vagina. Restrooms are segregated based on the set of genitals you possess and always have been. They have never, to my knowledge, been set up based on your sexual preference.

Except it isn't as simple as you think.

Did you react in a similar way when you first heard about homosexuality? "It's pretty simple biology: If you have a penis, you're attracted to women! Simples!"

I'm wondering whether a load of people on this thread would also judge people going into disabled based on their preconceptions of what people with disabilities look like.

that does not change biology. a male has a penis. now they can identify as a female. BUT they are still a male.

homosexuality and disability has nothing to do with this. that is another topic

You can't do that because then you would be singling out transexuals. It would be like having a restroom for blacks only.

This is going to be a very sticky situation.

You wouldn't because the rule is anyone can use the unisex locker room

Homosexuality is one thing; most gay people I know aren't lying to themselves about what sex they are. If they are a gay man, they still say they are a man, who happens to like men. They don't say they should have been a girl who likes men. They're gay, and they admit it and they don't try and use the opposite sex's bathroom.

Anybody can claim they are trangender; I could walk into the PF gym (I'm a PF member, btw) wearing a dress and lipstick and walk into the women's bathroom and it's ok? There's quite a few super sexy girls that workout there. I wouldn't mind a more intimate look.

I see it more as 'I'm gay and very, very confused.'

In a thread full of really stupid shit, this has, by far, got to be the dumbest. Transgenders aren't just "really gay". In fact, they might not even be "gay" at all. I know a transgender that is now a lesbian. They weren't gay before their transition, and now are.
