As a first year comp sci major at UCSB, I itch to jump on this awesome project, but my skill set isn't there quite yet... So this is a shout out to all programmers/graphics people, who would be willing to give up some of thier spare time to help out this worthy cause.

For those of you who dont know, Planeshift is an open source MMORPG. If you think about it that is just a crazy idea, without any development, but Luca and his team are developing, mostly in their free time.

Anyone else feel the need for a fee free online game? I centainly do... World of Warcraft and Everquest have their place, but wouldnt it be awesome if the open source/gaming community came up with a game of their own that rivaled the commercial equivalents, and offered it free of charge?

If you are in any way interested check out their web presence. Planeshift

I thought the reason for the high cost of MMORPGs are the in-house, dedicated servers. How is an open-source project going to provide that?

Good luck to the contributors.

They are getting free bandwidth from fragnetics.com, so *shrugs* I think it is kinda like the gaming community making their own game, without the developers and publishers.
