Planar PL191 vs PX191

Hi

For gaming: would you recommend the PL191 or the PX191?

I bought a PL191 for $570 a week ago. Today, I placed an order for the PX191 for $670 shipped.

Will i be disappointed?

I do game quite a bit and no, I don't want the 17" with the 16ms response time.

So: what is the extent of ghosting on the PX191? I could see very very obvious "fuzziness" when dragging an open window across the desktop (running off DVI on a Ti4600). Is blatant ghosting a problem on the PX191? (native resolution).

Thanks!

Lol! 🙂

Isn't the PX191 the same as a 192T (I think Kris said so).

But in case, I want a Planar for it's warranty policy plus the fact that Dell hot deals can get me a real good price on the monitor.

No, the px191 is the same panel as the 191T, the 192T uses a different substrate. Thus improving the quality of the picture by producing better signaling.

Uhh...I think I remember Kris saying something about them all using the same substrate...

From KristopherKubicki -
I think rumour has it that the 1901FP is going to be the Samsung 192T (which is identical to the Planar PX191).
The PL191 is a much different monitor
I am not sure where you read that the 191T and the 1900FP got lukewarm reviews. But correct, to my knowledge the PX191 is identical to those two. Dont forget that the new 192T which I just wrote a review on is also the same substrate. The difference is that 191T and 1900FP were designed for multi display purposes. The 192T and the PX191 are designed for single monitor usage - and have a year of signal processing upgrades on them.

Guys...forget the Samsung. 🙂

In terms of ghosting, especially in games: how do the PL191 and the PX191 compare?

Thanks!

I think you'll find the Samsung and Planar are quite different in terms on specs.

The Planar has 700:1 contrast and 300 brightness. I've got them running side by side and the Planar surely does beat my brothers 192T in all areas!

I've had the PX191 for about a month now and I must say that I love it dearly probably the best PC-related item I've ever purchased! For what I do (desktop publishing, email, web surfing, etc.) it's really been a huge improvement visually (previously used a Sony 19" 420GS flat screen CRT). But I really enjoy all of the free space on top of my desk, no more bulky-ass CRT.

As for ghosting, I don't see any when performing real basic tests (dragging an open window across the desktop, playing Solitaire and dragging cards across the play area, or even testing using the MonitorsDirect toolkit.) Maybe hard-core FPS intensive games would exhibit true ghosting...

This monitor kicks ass regardless (still no dead pixels). I have the silver/black edition!!
