Really it just depends on how much your new system would cost. Between the cost of a gpu and ddr4 the cost of a high end computer has gone up quite a bit.

What kind of computer are you looking for? I've got a barely used Dell laptop with Windows 10 that I bought 18 months ago that you can buy from me for $125 plus shipping. I use my iPad Pro 10.7" for most of my needs, a desktop for other stuff, so I no longer need the laptop.
Thanks, and that is a good price but I already have a laptop. I plan on 8c/16t minimum with 32GB of memory and two 2TB SSDs. Along with really good GPU.

This will probably take me at least three years to save up for something with these specs.

Indeed. That is also the reason I wouldn't build a new system now even if I had the money.
