Plan for US General to Run Iraq

Gen. Tommy Franks, who heads Central Command, will rule Iraq if the US succeeds in overthrowing Saddam Hussein militarily. Iraqi opposition leaders are expressing discontent regarding this proposal. Many of them have ambitions to lead Iraq.

US Senators have been briefed on this plan. They have been told that it could take two years to restore rule to Iraqi civilians. Opposition leaders fear Iraqis may see this move as part of an occupation, not a transition.

Opposition leaders also warn that it appears the US military may only target Iraqi leaders who committed crimes. This would mean allowing other existing leaders to retain control. The military appears to think many leaders will change ship in a war.

I dont know about the two year thing. Admittly it may be good for Iraq in the long run, but its not going to look good for the USA in the short run.

excellent idea... an american general best knows the conditions in an arab country... knows the people well and can easily win their hearts... and there is no way he can mess up in a stone age country like iraq... even if he does we can always convert that part of the globe into another lake... no resistance at all from the neiboring countries

I bet the Arabs are going to blame us for every problem in Iraq, whether it's our fault or not. Not that they don't do it already, but still.
