I will be in Boston next week with my wife. It is business trip for me, so I will be busy during the days (except for Friday).

What are some things my wife can do on her own during the day, we can do together in the evenings and do together on Friday?

BTW, we are probably going to the Red Sox game on Tuesday night.

I was not planning on renting a car, unless it becomes necessary.

Thoughts?

the boston pops are playing on the islands. faneuil hall, red sox, freedom trail, uss constitution, copley square, harvard square, newbury street, boston common, charles river, museum of science, museum of art, new england aquarium...tons of stuff and food!

everything within town is accessible by train or short walks

Faneuil Hall is free but eat before you go inside... you may be tempted by all the food at nose height.
it's called the Quincy market - BUT it is NOT located on the subway stop called "quincy", as i discovered myself once.

and it's amazing.

tbh i don't think there is one ugly place in boston. if you can bear it, the plaza of the christian science center (yupp .. scientologists) is amazing. just dont talk to anyone who approaches you with a clipboard.

Specifically it is the First Church of Christ, Scientist. Not as nutty as the Tom Cruise freaks, but they do believe in prayer instead of medicine. Was founded by Mary Baker Eddy in 1879.

Also, Old Ironsides is in dry dock now for a long scheduled rehab.

Love the Freedom Trail, and especially Paul Revere's house. Amazing how he raised a family in that tiny place.

Don't miss the many museums, both on college campuses & off.

If you do end up renting a car, only use it for visiting farther sites, like Plymouth Rock, not for visits within Boston or Cambridge as you will find out that you truly cannot pahk yah cah in Hahvuhd Yahd [without luck & a Cambridge Pahking Permit].

According to my GF, the Liberty Bell. She kept going on and on about seeing it when we went to Boston.

I have seen the Liberty Bell...

When I was in Philadelphia.

That was the point... She was simply impossible to reason with until I finally made her look it up herself.

The best part about Boston, being from a coastal region and now living in Chicago, was the availability of seafood. Pretty much any dive place had fresh fish and oysters and it was great. Though, I'd probably steer away from oysters that aren't farm raised for another 2 months. =)
