Places to go for a weekend vacation with girlfriend?

I am looking for some nice places to go in the US for a weekend with my girlfriend in October. Anywhere in the US is fine. I'm thinking a ski trip would be a lot of fun, but any other suggestions are welcome. Any ideas for places to go? How expensive can I expect the trip to be? Thanks.

Big Sky, Montana is pretty popular for skiiing up here. Not sure how much scratch it'd take though.

For skiing, I was thinking more in Colorado or somewhere in the North East, any ideas?

You should avoid going to Iraq if possible.

the only northeast ski mountain that might be decent in october is killington. Other than that any that may be open will not be worth the money for lift tickets.
