places to buy customized pre-built desktops?

I've got a friend who is looking to spend about $400-$700 (shipped) on a pre-built desktop (no monitor, keyboard, or mouse needed). He's not a gamer, and will really be using it for office, e-mail, and some digital photo stuff probably running on Win XP Pro. My friend lives in Chicago, and I'm in Boston, so I can't built it for him, I can only give him free advice on components, and I'd like to avoid Dell and the like. Can anyone recommend some companies/websites that will allow you to essentially customize the components of your desktop without having to build it yourself?
