Placement of drives

I'm having a hard time figuring this one out...

Right now, I have one Maxtor 80gb HD, an Artec DVD-ROM, and a QPS 16x CDRW drive. I don't have the CDRW hooked up, because I can't figure out how to place them. I have the MSI KT3 ULTRA ARU mb, so I have two ATA133 ports and two for RAID. I have the HD on p.1 and the DVD on p.2. I've read that only hard disk drives will work on the RAID ports (I would be using them in ATA133 config., which I can't figure out how to enable). I probably won't be doing any "onthe fly" burning, so could I put the two optical on the same channel? The HD would be ata133, and the think both of the other are at DMA33. My manual says to always put the HD on channel 1. Could I put it on one of the RAID channels?

Also, what about Master/Slave conf.? I always thought that the master should be on the terminus end and the slave in the middle. Now I read that it's the other way around (I guess so the master doesn't get interrupted). That's only for "cable select."...???

I can't be certain about you config because I'm not that familiar with RAID but it seems to me that you can plug the cdrw in any of the non-raid ide channels. You could either make it the slave of the current dvd or you could make it the master on channel 2. You hard drive should work on raid channel 1. I'm not sure about that though. And it doesn't matter which part of the cable you plug the drive in so long as one of the drive on the cable is master and the other is slave.

if your not doing a lot of on the fly burning i would put both optical drives on the same channel

2 good ways you can set it up and either would work well

dont use the raid controller. put the harddrive on the primary set as master, and put both the dvd and the cdrw on the secondary, set the cdrw as master and set the dvd as slave

the other way you might want to set it up:

put the harddrive on the raid controller set as master(but make sure you set the raid controller to be a normal ata133 controller, this is usually done with a jumper, but check the manual) then put the cdrw on the primary set as master, and put the dvd on the secondary set as master

personally i would do it the first way to increase boot times (so you dont have to wait for the raid controllers bios to load)
