I will give you $1,500 for it. And a 6-pack of the finest imported Canadian beer, but you have to drive it up to VT first.

Seriously though, it looks like the price is about right for it.

I think $17,500 for excellent condition... there are some rock chips on the front of the cars that I'm going to fix up. Just used a clay bar and wax the baby and it is lookin' nice. Dunno about it being excellent condition tho, it was my daily driver after all. I tried to keep it in great condition tho!

I just checked edmunds and the MSRP on a new base car is $19,510 with the invoice price at $17,827. You seem to have the base car, with a $500 addon option of the 17" alloy wheels. Take that for what it's worth.

VW enthusiasts love all their MKs (generations) equally :)

I'll keep it at this price for a week and see if I get any bites. Thanks guys!

so if it has some chips and the kbb (i assume you're talking about private) is $17.5k, then i suggest you put no more than $17k. i say something around $16k would be a fair price.

Ah, you didn't write those packages in the description, and I had no clue what features each one has so I assumed base model with just the upgraded wheels.

Take a look at used car pricing as a seller at http://www.edmunds.com/used/2004/volkswagen/gti/100359067/options.html. I'm getting aboiut $16K with those options, but I might have missed something.

hmmm... I priced it on kbb.com (17,895) and black book (17,550) and it gave me higher values. Is Edmunds more trustworthy?

Maybe in a couple of months I can let it go for 16k but I'm not in that big of a hurry to sell. Still loves the car, but just want to upgrade to a sportier car while I'm young

Oh should I mention that I have the Dension IceLink on there so it is iPod ready? or should I remove it before I sell it?

Price is high I know, but I figured buyers will talk me down at least 500 to a grand... that's why I didn't put FIRM on there or anything

haha....

anyway, the thing about kkb or edmunds is they will never pay for the price they listed

If a brand new car cost $22k, this price look OK to me

edit: why are you selling anyways?

that's what i'm wondering. i'd also wonder how anyone could make a car's excellent condition be questionable after only 14500 miles.

a car's value drops as soon as it leaves the lot. the GTI, in its last year before a model change, will not fetch you much since it's not a very "hot" car. if you have something that is popular... say a 2005 mustang GT, then the value won't drop as fast (at least for now for the mustang)

Get used to it. Buyers are liars and idiots. The key to any good sale is a subtle but ballsy take-away. Buyers know this so they will always try to lowball and take-away from you, i.e. if you don't take my ridiculously low offer right now you'll probably never sell it. The proper response is that they don't want to pay your price, they'll never find what they're looking for and, when they do, it probably won't be in half as nice of condition as yours is. You don't say this verbatim, of course, you just make sure your point gets across.

I'm selling because I know the new GTIs are coming out soon and if I wait until next year to get rid of it it won't get much value. I REALLY want a 350z while I'm still young (it's not a practical car at all since it is a 2 seater when you're older)

Though I really like the GTI, it's not really much of a looker IMHO. I moved up from a Chevy Prizm to this and it was a nice upgrade, but now after working fulltime for a year I have a sense of what I can afford and I just want to move up a little bit more.

There's really nothing wrong w/ the car, I'm not selling because I'm hiding something like a broken tranny or anything. I have all the records and the car is still under warranty

EDIT: I'm also out of town the next few weeks a lot (on the weekdays) because of work travel, so since I won't be driving the car a lot during this time, I figured it'll be a good time to sell it. Mileage will stay close to where it is now (14,445)
