In the subburbs where the real money is not ever building has external parking and at just over 100k the X isn't going to be a "unattainable" car. Specially as an SUV where some people would have a regular winter vehicle and then the summer fun car, the X is going to be a decent all year round option.
I can tell you in Michigan unless you work downtown Detroit finding a place that has a covered parking garage in close enough walking distance is extremely rare. In Novi where I work I doubt I could be challenged to find one public garage and probably could come up with maybe two large locations with a covered garage.
I can tell you here that in the last 3 years I have seen several Cayenne's covered in snow. Again the biggest issue isn't the cost, or even the doors themselves, it's putting those doors on SUV. Your thinking is also whacked. That 100k car used to be this rare bird. That was Ferrari money, that was 911 Turbo money. Now its that really nice sometimes sporty car money. Around here much more of them are driven year round even with our winters than you would think.
