Just wondering how much do you guys in tip? And how much do you delivery guys feel is nice? My parents grew me up giving $1 tip, but recently I find out people giving usually at least $2. And this is for a normal about $16 or so order. Is that too little? :p I always thought that was the norm and dind't care, but now I'm worried that they think stingy shiester.

I always pick up my pizza, 10 mins for the round trip. saves me on tipping, and the wait.

Let's see. . . $119/44 = $2.70 for the average tip I received last night. Obviously, that means $1 is cheap as hell. $2-3 is OK, $4 is good, and $5+ is perfect. :D

And people, please turn on your porch light, and don't paint over the numbers on your house with the same dark matte finish as the rest of your house trim. Thanks! :)

I'm a $5 tipper when food comes to my door. That doesn't mean that I expect $5 each time I deliver to you, but do kick in at least $2. I mean, what would you want for driving your own car to my street, finding my address in the dark, and running up to my door at 11:00 at night?

EDIT: Keep in mind, that the boss only pays you $5.15 per hour.

EDIT 2: Make sure that the tip is no less than 8-10% of the total bill, or $2. So that means if it's a $9 small pie, tip at least $2, and if it's a $75 party order, tip $7-8.

Wow, garfang, seems like you guys have it under control :) At my Papa John's, we have two phone girls, the manager (also is dough slapper) and 1 cook. Last night I drove 98 miles, made $93 dollars in tips, and I did about 34 delieveries. I worked from 5pm until 2:30am. We usually have about 7 or 8 drivers. On Fridays and Saturdays, we usually make about 250 orders a night.

And about tips - yes, if you tip $1, don't expect the driver to be too happy.

And a tip to people ordering Pizza, make sure you have REFLECTIVE and LARGE numbers on your mailbox (Here in Panama City, You're required to have a mailbox beside the road), and give the phone person extra info about your house (IE - there's a yellow mustang parked in the driveway, etc) - it always makes your delivery time quicker, and your house won't be a PITA to find ;)

Also, WE DO NOT CHARGE A DELIVERY FEE AT MY LOCAL PAPA JOHN's :)

I live in an area where papa johns has started to charge an extra 1.75 delivery fee when I do phone orders. I think it's a bunch of crap. I've since learned the pleasure of the papa johns on-line ordering. It has a bunch of coupons on the top that you select (no more clipping and hunting) and for some strange reason they dont' charge tax or the delivery fee when they get the on-line order (maybe they just don't check the maps). As a result, I've been giving the driver the extra $1.75 for their tip ($15 or $16 on an 11.99 pizza) and getting faster service and, once, a couple of cokes. I love the on-line ordering and they don't seem to mess up toppings.

As far as I can tell, they're charging the delivery fee for houses that are more than a mile away from their shop...

I've had to switch our family away from Donatos ever since McD's took them over and they changed their crust (it's gone from crispy to a chewy-sweet)

$2.73 average tip for rbloedow! A dollar is way too little. ;)

I started at 4:30 yesterday. Lately, we've been doing 150-175 orders on Friday and Saturday, and it's been going up steadily with our latest mailing. Considering that we don't do TV or radio, just direct mail and door-to-door fliers (which sucks, I try to weasel out of that every single day!) we do pretty well.

Well, I'm off to work!

I agree - delivery fees suck (we don't charge for delivery), and online ordering ROCKS!

dang, you guys sure don't know how hard pizza delivery drivers work on a friday night....i work at a pizza place, i know.....if they're 15 minutes late give 'em a break, that's not the fault of the driver, he's trying, trust me, but if the pizza's wrong, i think you should get a free pizza/discount or something........
