Pizza delivery risk statistics

tweakmm

I've been thinking about getting a job and given the situation of the tech sector, I think my best bet to make a decent amount of cash for my time is to get a job delivering something. Last week there was that pizza got who was forced to strap a bomb to his chest and rob a bank and it got me thinking about the statistics of on the job assults and such for delivery guys.

I'm not really worried about my safety, but I'd be currious to see if anybody has compiled any statistics for that kind of stuff.
cheers:beer:

You won't make nearly as much as you could being a waiter or bartender...however, it is one of the best/easiest jobs I've ever held. You get to drive around and listen to music all day.

Don't get a job that requires you to pay attention, read or, God forbid, comprehend what you read. The bomb was around his neck.

Next.:Q

I think the location of the bomb is rather inconsequential as of now.

I've worked for Papa John's here in Panama City for 2 years and none of our drivers have ever gotten robbed, attacked, or anything of that nature while working. Two of our store were robben in the past two years, but other than that, it's been A-OK 🙂

ON weekdays, working from 5pm until 12am, I usually make 60-70 bucks. On the weekend that can easily go over 100 bucks.

If life was like a cheezy porno script, the best job in the world would be a pizza delivery man.

so true, so true ... or maybe being a pool cleaner. or a plumber. or a cabana boy. or, let's face it, just having a johnson.

i delivered pies this summer, i was never in any sort of trouble... and yeah, it was a good job; good pay, pretty easy... it is pretty damn tiring though, you're basically driving for 5 hours, which is surprisingly exhaustive.

Yeah, I find driving too mundane to do for such a long time. Hope you have fun. Oh, and most scientists, statistical type people, just don't care enough about pizza guys.

I think remember reading somewhere, although I can't remember where, that delivering pizza is the third most dangerous job in the country, behind police officers and cab drivers. I find that hard to believe. I've driven for two summers and the Christmas break in between and had no problems at all. One driver at our store was robbed last summer and one this summer. I don't know about the time in between. One or two at other stores in the area. Personally, though, I've never had a problem or felt like I was going to.

Thats a really long shift. I would hope to make more than 60-70 bux on a 19 hour shift. 😛

I think the number of people on here who don't tip presents more of a risk to pizza delivery guys than anything else

You got that backwards. The pizza guys present the threat to the people here who don't tip well...😉

Did you ever experience how warm apple pie felt?

ONe thing I've noticed is that most delivery people are assholes (trust me, I've seen over 100 people come and go from my store).

Honestly, if I don't get a tip, I just smile and tell the person to have a nice day. Sure, it sucks that I didn't get a tip, but I'm not guaranteed one in the first place. My opinion on it is that if I create a good impression on that person when I deliver, maybe they'll be more apt to tip the next driver or me if I end up delivering to them again.

A good amount of our drivers get visibly angry in front fo the customer, and many even go as far as asking what they did wrong to not deserve a tip

Heh, I always tip. Sometimes the people can't find where I'm ordering from, despite the fact that the order slip says radio station and we have a big fsking tower with lights on it in the middle of a field.

😛

We didn't deliver to certain parts of town after 11 PM. And the one driver that did go out there at night carried a gun (he was robbed a few times). Yeah, it was pretty rough in some parts. And those troubled areas....they rarely tipped at all.

HEHE - this is one of the reasons why I carry my cell phone on me at all times. Nothing worse than not being able to find a house and having to drive to a gas station to call them.....

Also, a tip for all of you pizza orderers - make sure your house number is large and easily visible from the street in front of your house. If you ever wonder what's taking so long when having your pizza delivered, this is usually the number 1 reason why.

My roomate is a delivery driver for Pizza Guys. Some high schoolers tried to get out of paying for a pizza once by holding a knife up to him. My roomate is 6'2 220lbs. He just kicked the guy and walked away. People are dumb.
