My guess would be principally because by the time that wrapped burger got to you, it'd be tepidly lukewarm and would have steamed it's roll to mush.

Profit per dish/item is probably much lower with a burger than pizza or chinese food.

Pizza and Chinese is usually more expensive.

Most Chinese delivery has a minimum order.

Pizza they are usually decently busy and can deliver several in one trip, making it cost effective.

Our pizza places also do burgers and fries, as well as chicken etc, and deliver.

When I was in college, there was a burger joint right off campus that did delivery (until 2am or so in the morning too!). You'd think the time it takes to deliver burgers would ruin them, but the food was actually quite excellent, if not a bit heart-attack inducing. :D

At least in DC, Drdelivery.com will bring you burgers. They mark up the menu and charge a delivery fee based on # of places plus a base. We've called in many times while drunk and usually told them to F themselves when they tell you the total, because it gets nuts.

I think once we ordered like 6 things from a normally cheap Chinese joint. Came out to over $100. We cancelled that before the call ended and got some Ellio's Pizza instead :)

Why?

Say what? There are drive-thru Chinese places all over the US.

I've lived here for almost nine years and been to over 30 states and have yet to see a Chinese restaurant with a drive through.

We have two in town here (NC) plus one Japanese steak house with a drive-through. They're out of the way so if you're not a local they would be hard to find. Which I imagine is the case with a lot of the ones around the US.

Must not be looking very hard. Panda Express alone covers 37 states.
