Pixelation on monitor......

When I play some games (Roller Coaster Tycoon in particular) I get some kind of transparent "pixelation" or "noise" on my monitor that trickles down the screen, then appears back up and then down again.

I updated the drivers, messed with hardware acceleration, etc.

Anybody else have this problem?

The first thing I'd try is see if you can isolate the problem - see if it's software or hardware based. If you have another monitor lying around (which, as I understand it, you do;)), I'd check to see if the problem is still prevalent with this other device. If so, then we know it's something with the computer and not your monitor.

Another thing to check - make sure Windows has properly detected your monitor. Although I've never heard of such a problem happening because of Windows not recognizing the monitor, it's worth a shot.

Also, it would probably be wise to post your video card make/model. If it turns out the monitor is not the culprit, many of us here would have an easier time diagnosing the problem if we knew what video card you are using.

Before everyone starts choking me with their anti-static wrist straps, let me tell you my specs.

Komodo 17" (16.1") monitor
ATI 128-RAGE PRO 32MB
128 PC-133 RAM
Athlon Thunderbird 800Mhz

Oh, and another thing, I am missing one of my pins on the male end of the cable (I hope that's not it, b/c the stupid cable is built in).

I was having the same problem with one of my monitors. The screen was fine for about the first 5 minutes of use then these lines started appearing. My task bar was about 2 inches big. I noticed that it was about 2 inches from top and bottom that was messed up for me. Only thing that I could think that was doing it was a missing pin in the cable. As yours, mine was built in as well.

FYI Guys.

The 15pin D-sub connector male side usually has 14 pins....each signal wire has a ground if I'm not mistaken...7 signal, 7 ground. 14 total.

The pin missing is on middle row

Nah, the broken one is on the end, in the last row (or first row, by the way you look at it).

Kinda like this:

0 0 0 0 0
0 0 0 0 0
X 0 0 0 0

See where the "x" is? that's the missing pin. The thing is, it doesn't look like it has broken off, 'cause you I can't see any traces of the breakage that's left on the cable. D-OH!
