Pixel Pipeline Clarification Please

I saw that but in the reviews a few persons were arguing about whether it had only 8 pipelines or it had 24 (like Newegg has stated).

I want some clarification on this matter. If it indeed has 24 pipes, then I would have only 1 other concern about upgrading to this until DX10 cards get cheap.

Can you confirm that with a link?

Also, how efficient is the card in this manner?
Is it a better card than my X850XT? By how much?
Worth the upgrade?

The term "pixel pipeline" has little importance in modern video cards. To be specific, here's what the card really has:

24 pixel shaders
8 texture units

When doing only texturing, the card has effectvely 8 pipes. When running math-only shaders, the card acts as a 24-pipe card. In actual games, the performance will fall somewhere in the middle. Moreover, the texture units are in a separate array, so no one texture unit is tied to any specific shader(s).

And, no, it's not an upgrade in performance over an x850xt. It has about equal performance.

Like the above said, it's 24 pixel shaders on 8 pipes. The high end X1K series are like this too. The X1900XT has 48 pixel shaders on 16 pipes.

Thanks munky.

I guess that won't be a viable option for me at this point then.
Aside from my X850XT, what is THE BEST card i can get for $100-$130?
Maybe, just maybe, even a stretch up to $150.

Nothing in that price range is a worthy upgrade. If you go up to around $190 you can get a X1950 Pro which is an upgrade.

What about the 8300GT for $99 (MSRP)?

Any idea about the performance of that as against the X850XT?

afaik no benchmarks have been published for that card, but it will probably be slower than your x850xt
