Pixel art is cool!

So I'm decorating my one-year-old's room, and I stumble on these "eBoy" posters. Man, they are just wicked cool-- very vibrant and full of detail. They seem to do a lot of cityscapes, like this one of Singapore (credits).

Anyone else like this stuff? I'm ordering a 47 X 33 poster of NYC for 20 bucks. I'm not allowed to paint the walls in my kid's new room where we're staying right now, and I just want to liven things up.

Wow, that looks EXACTLY like NYC.

Heh heh. I guess so. At least it FEELS a little bit like it, but more importantly, it's kinda entertaining to poke around in. I wish it were big enough to use as a wallpaper on my SXGA+ screen without a border.

I originally went looking for some of the big micro-detail funny posters they used to sell in the 80's and 90's, but couldn't find any. Like a big 3/4 view of a campground, with a thousand or more cartoon people all doing funny things. Apparently that part of our culture has vanished without a trace.

I did find out one funny thing in that research, though-- apparently Waldo fell from grace due to a tiny, stylized nude pinup appearing in one of the "Where's Waldo?" books! Conservatives denounced it, and that was enough to kill sales.

Mordillo made some crowded cartoon posters like this one, but I don't know if the posters are still around?

Thanks a lot! That's the sort of thing I had in mind, and it's at least a great lead.

I dunno. The pixel art does show skill and it's somewhat entertaining, I just feel that it somehow just doesn't feel right.

reminds me of a lego train game my son used to play but I got addicted to. You could build cities and track then animate it all. I loved that game.
