Hi. My machine died a few days ago, and I must buy a new cpu + mb.
I know it's not a good moment to upgrade my computer, but I have to do it as soon as possible.
Do you think this PIV 3.0GHz 800MHz for $232 is a good deal or should I wait one or two weeks for the price to drop more?

Please, let me know what you think!

Thanks!

For that kind of money you should also be looking into an Athlon 64 system.

I'm looking at intel because PIV seems to have some good margin for OC, and AMD doesn't.
Also, I don't think 64bit software is going to be available soon. I work with 3D/composition packages (3DstudioMAX, etc).
Do you think Athlon64 is the way to go?

I'm probably not the one to be asking.

If you're gonna overclock go with the P4 but most would recommend you get a 2.4C or a 2.6C and overclock. As far as future proofing goes I'd personally get the A64. My best advice is wait for some other opinions. ;)
