Gordon gets a 5 yr 55 million deal and Villanueva gets a 5 yr 40 million deal.

I'm pretty sure they're gonna let Rasheed go. Am I the only one that thinks Gordon is not worth that much. I mean he was good against the Celts in the playoffs, but he might be the most 1 dimensional 'star' in the league.

Gordon is streaky that's why.

Now that Sheed is most likely going to leave, let's hope the Spurs can pick him up.

I don't think any other NBA teams are shaking in their boots over the Pistons getting these two scrubs.

Gordon really isn't that much of a scrub averaging 21pts a game through his career but he's not en elite player or an all star.

yes, but neither of them are proven players.
this in no way changes the landscape of the EC.
they are still not at the level of boston, orlando, cleveland.

Oh of course not but calling Gordon a scrub, he is not.

Villanueva would be a solid role player for almost any team. A lot of folks were hoping he'd sign with Cleveland, but with only a mid-level exception to offer, they aren't signing any free agents worth anything this offseason. I'm a little surprised he's getting $8 mil per, though.

Very streaky. When Gordon is hot, he's completely unguardable and one of the most clutch players in the league.

But he gets the ball endlessly if he hits a few shots, and loses any ability to pass. As a result too often he shoots himself and the team out of a chance to seal games, even tho he was the one who got them so close (and he was probably a big reason they got behind in the first place, by hitting virtually nothing in the first half)

And while his defense isn't non-existent, he rarely ever comes up with big plays on defense.

Overall he is a team liability imo...a horse that needs too much water and can't stay on track consistent. He's good for a losing team like the bulls because he excites the fan base, but that's all they will be if he is their main horse (err...bull.)

No doubt. A brilliant first year with plenty he will improve on as well.

As a bulls fan, I'm torn with losing Gordon. He had such a huge impact on the games. He could single handedly win a game for you but his defense is soft. There was no way I would have wanted to keep him for over $10 mil a year. Hopefully the team will gel more without BG7 chucking up shots randomly.

I don't see how he fits in Detroit. They are known for their defense. I think Dumars made a 2 big mistakes with his signings.

I don't get the reasoning either. Perhaps he's going to trade hamilton? I like Villanueva, have since college, but haven't seen enough to get why he hasn't been better in the nba. Iirc, he scored 50 as a rookie, but that's been more like a glitch than foreshadowing.

I'd take hamilton over bg7 any day. Except that he doesn't shoot as many 3's. I haven't really watched Villanueva either. I wouldn't consider him an upgrade over sheed though.

I don't understand why. He butted heads with Curry about playing time etc. but now Curry is out, yet there is noise about moving Hamilton as well. Gotta wonder about dumars...trades billups for iverson, and he's out. Goes with Curry, and he's out after only 1 year. Now he wants Hamilton out? Can't see how he's making that team better anymore. Gordon won't get any better at defense and Villanueva is perenial under-achiever (imo, altho had a better year last year.)

/edit: I'd like to see the bulls sign him. :)

Topic Title: Pistons sign Ben Gordon and Charlie Villanueva.

Did I miss some event where time moved forward at an accelerated pace and it somehow became July 8? :Q

thank god

I don't have a problem with not making an offer, but think it looks very bad for the GM to say in public that signing him is a "priority", but privately doing the exact opposite.

That's not typical of how reisndorf and the bulls management run the franchise.

I think 1 of 2 things happend:

1)BG is full of shit
2)They didn't have time to make an offer because BG was not interested in staying. They offered his dumbass the same deal he just signed 3 times and he said no each time before begging for it last summer. Good riddance.
