Piss-poor cable... What to do?

We recently got a new ISP at my house, a cable connection, which was nice because I had been stuck with the worst connections my entire life. Unfortunately the new connection isn't much better. Although downloads are very fast, I am a gamer and lag and CIs concern me more which I have more of than ever before. Basically, if I play any game any time between noon and 1am, the experience is horrid. I generally will get cis about one a minute, lasting anywhere from 5 to 45 seconds, which makes it not worth it to play. This happens in all games, with any server, and yes I have tried to turn down video options which was of no use. What can I do? Unfortunately I'm stuck with this ISP since no one else is in our area. Is there anything either I or the company could do, or am I basically screwed? Any help would be nice.

Man, that sucks.

Assuming the problem is definitely on the ISP's end, you'd prolly want to call tech support.

Do other users experience the same thing? Or is it just your connection?

One would imagine that a serious problem like this would just be temporary... if it isn't, find the appropriate ppl to complain to. You could try "turboing" your calls. You also might want to check out what ppl have to say bout your ISP at dslreports.com. Could be that someone there has a solution...

If worse comes to worst, marching into the local office with a record of your problems (times, types) can get results.

I used to have the same problem a while back with my cable ISP. What I learned was to call as soon as you have a problem, their "tech" will go through the same routine of having your unplug and reset your modem, and other useless things, play along, it's easier in the end. Call them EACH DAY you have the problem, eventually they'll send a service man out to your house to check the signal, make the appointment around the time you start having problems. After I had 2 peices of my cable line repaired, and they finally admitted there was a problem with the node I was on, speed went up, lag went down. It took about 10-15 phone calls, and many service man visits (I got to know my cable man by name, sadly) but I got a lot of money back in credits for my trouble, and my connections better than ever.
